2030 is the year Belgium celebrates it 200 year existence and we have elections are every 5 years. This means that a Flemish nationalist and independist will be the one to make preparations and possibly still be prime minister by the time of these celebrations. Peak Belgian absurdism.
They went from a slug speed last time around to now a box turtle speed in forming a new government. Progress I guess
Can’t wait for my prime minister to call me lazy for being born in the south of the country
Reunification with NL soon?

Nationalist = irrational person by definition (strong basic tribal behavior). These are the times.
I live in Flemish Belgium btw.
Based Bartje!
Finally an intelligent prime minister.
(To the downvoters: linkse traantjes)
I don’t agree with the guy in the slightest, in fact i oppose him on the vast majority of his stances.
But he has been the most popular face of Belgian politics for so long, that i honestly think its time for him to prove that he really can do it better.
And i would love to be proven wrong.
I do find it sad though, that it had to take a full 7 months again, politicians here truly have 0 sense of urgency or responsibility.
The outcome of the elections gave a clear outcome on who needs to talk with who, and what direction needs to be taken… and still they manage to make it a 7 months long drag to come to an agreement.
In any other country, after a few months at max, people would put there ego’s at least partially aside, and for the good of the country, find compromise everyone can at least live with.
But not in Belgium, here all parties at the table (and there are many) need to fight on every topic to an irrational degree, just to defend their party line, and stroke their own ego’s.
I will give it to him that he’s a very intelligent person, a historian, and a very strong debater.
So at least i have confidence, that the person in charge is not an idiot, or someone that’s pushed aside like he’s nothing.
At least it’s without extreme right
This is extremely dangerous to our democracy!
It will be a shaky government.
Still confused, they speak English with each other?
Flemish Nationalist was not on my radar for things that we might be discussing in 2025.
all hail Bart De Wever, I follow quite a few countries politically and he is BY FAR one of the most intelligent – although a bit akward – politicians in Europe today. Hopefully they LET him clean up the mess that this country has become.
Is Vlaams Belang part of this government at all?
There’s no new government yet. And I don’t mean that in a pedantic way as in they didn’t swear their oath yet. But the coalition still needs to be approved by the party members, and there’s a rather large chance that the members of Vooruit will reject their party’s participation in the coalition. Vooruit is the only center left party in the coalition and got under severe criticism by the other leftwing parties, the unions and other left leaning pressure groups for joining a rather rightwing coalition with austerity measures.
Good, a historian like De Wever will understand that Brabant and Flanders are two different entities, unlike the travesty we have now. Time to throw the Flemish oppressor out and establish independence. Forza Brabant!
Dewever is much more than just a flemish nationalist in my opinion. Moreover, the government will not be doing any Flemish nationalist stuff, but be the first in a long time to reform the tax system and unemployment benefits etc. Perhaps there is some hope for Belgium after all.
