Cat Pulka e la sua amica, il soldato Valerii, che l’ha adottata nelle trincee di Kharkiv e ora la ha portato a casa

Valerii said very clearly why he could not leave behind Pulka:

“How could I leave her there? She became so dear to me”

Originally from Bakhmut, Valerii signed a contract at the start of the full-scale war to join a rapid response border command unit. His latest six-month rotation was his third deployment to eastern Ukraine.

Pulka was first brought to his unit’s position by fellow soldiers. She quickly adapted, catching mice in the dugouts. With time Pulka stayed moved closer to the field kitchen, and her diet shifted accordingly 🙂 

Valerii shared that Pulka sensed danger—before shelling, she would hide, sometimes requiring the soldiers to search for her. Despite the hardships of war, the little cat became a source of comfort for the troops.

When it was time to return to Lutsk, where Valerii now lives with his wife.
