Nakhcivan decided to stay as a part of Azerbaijan with the decleration of Aras Turkic Republic, Zangezur decided to stay as a part of Armenia with the decleration of Mountainous Armenian Republic.

Soviets give nobody a land. Karabakh and Nakhcivan were already under Azerbaijani rule, just like Zangezur was already under Armenian rule

“1949-1954-cü illərdə Azərbaycan SSR-in dövlət başçısı olmuş Nəzər Heydərovun “Zəngəzur dağlarında” bioqrafik kitabını oxuyuram. Kitab 1917-1921-ci illərdə Zəngəzurda baş vermiş siyasi proseslərdən bəhs edir. Kitabda yazılanlardan bir daha görünür ki, Qərbi Zəngəzur heç vaxt Müsavat Azərbaycanı tərkibində olmayıb. Nəzər Heydərov açıq şəkildə yazıb ki, iki hissəyə bölünmüş qəzanın müsəlman hissəsinin mərkəzi Müsavat dövründə Qubadlının Dondarlı kəndində yerləşirdi. Bu məlumatı Riçard Hovhannisyanın ” The Republic of Armenia” kitabında da görmüşdüm.

When we speak about the Zangezur Uyezd in the Russian empire and how it had an Azerbaijani majority, it is important to note that it was split into two parts. What Aliyev refers to as “Western Zangezur” (Sisian, Goris, Ghapan, and Meghri regions of Armenia) had an Armenian majority and was included in Soviet Armenia based on the fact that the 1st republic had established control over it. “Eastern Zangezur” is the East Zangezur economic region of Azerbaijan, it had an Azerbaijani and Kurdish majority [(Ethnographic map here)](https://www.reddit.com/r/armenia/comments/1cavmec/zangezur_uyezd_1886_ethnographic_map/).

So claims to Armenia’s Syunik are largely hinged on manipulation of statistics, implying that the whole Zangezur Uyezd was an even 40 60 mix between Armenians and Azerbaijanis, rather than West Zangezur having a clear Armenian majority and Eastern Zangezur having a clear Azerbaijani one.

Another good example of this relates to the claim that there were 300 mosques in Armenia during the Russian period. This number was for the Erivan Governorate, which in addition to modern Armenian lands also included Nakhchivan and Ighdir, which had an Azerbaijani majority. Obviously, that massively inflates the number of mosques, not to say that many mosques weren’t destroyed in Armenia proper.

Maybe Armenians should start with their own lies first. It doesn’t even matter if it is a lie or truth. This entire narrative is a response to Armenia’s territorial claims.
