Di recente mi sono trovato in una situazione davvero stressante. Ho pubblicato un annuncio su Facebook Marketplace per vendere il mio MacBook Pro M4 Max per € 3.400. Un ragazzo di nome Thomas Carty mi ha contattato, ha mostrato interesse e abbiamo concordato la vendita.
Il 22 gennaio, intorno alle 19:00, arrivò nel mio appartamento a Köln per controllare il laptop. Arrivò in una Mercedes di guida a destra, sostenendo di essere da Heathrow, in Inghilterra, nel Regno Unito. Ha detto che era con sua moglie e sua figlia e ho visto due persone in macchina.
Dopo aver ispezionato il laptop, abbiamo concordato la vendita. Mi ha dato il suo numero di Whatsapp e ho fornito il mio Iban e il nome completo. Poi, di fronte a me, ha condiviso uno screenshot del bonifico bancario: l’ho persino visto eseguire la transazione in quella che sembrava un’app bancaria legittima. Tutto sembrava perfetto.
Poiché i trasferimenti commerciali di Commerzbank a volte possono richiedere un po ‘di tempo per riflettere, mi fidavo di lui. Ho ripristinato il Mac e ho consegnato il laptop, il caricabatterie e una tastiera aggiuntiva. Ma quando ho controllato il mio conto, i soldi non c’erano. Gli ho immediatamente detto, e mi ha rassicurato di nuovo, persino consegnandomi il telefono per mostrare la storia delle transazioni, è stato tutto molto convincente.
Nel momento in cui se ne andò, ho avuto la sensazione che qualcosa non andasse. Ho immediatamente invertito lo screenshot e mi sono reso conto di essere stato truffato.
L’ho chiamato subito: in realtà ha risposto e sono rimasto calmo. Mi ha rassicurato, dicendo: “Non preoccuparti, amico. È una transazione internazionale, ci vorrà del tempo. “
Più tardi, ho chiamato di nuovo e ho chiesto quale banca ha usato e ha detto TSB Bank. È stato allora che ho iniziato a confondermi, perché stava ancora rispondendo se fosse una truffa?
Il giorno successivo, ha smesso completamente di rispondere.
Ho il suo numero di cellulare (ancora attivo), ma non risponderà più.
L’ho riferito alla polizia e ho fornito loro il numero di serie del laptop. Sfortunatamente, Apple non può bloccare il dispositivo, quindi non ho modo di monitorare o recuperarlo.
Più che la perdita finanziaria, ciò che fa di più male è quanto sia stata convincente e ben pianificata la truffa. Questo è successo nella mia casa e non avrei mai pensato di innamorarmi di qualcosa del genere. So di essere stato negligente qui. Ho comprato e venduto articoli online molte volte prima, ed ero troppo sicuro di sé.

It’s unfortunately a very common scam. You can’t really do more than report it to the police. It’s very unlikely you’ll get your money or laptop back.
For future reference if someone prefers to transfer large sums like that, fair enough. But you don’t hand over the items before the transaction is fully completed (for instance by using the instant transfer feature) and reflects in YOUR banking app.

He was still responding to make sure you wouldn’t go the police yet, until he got his ass out of the area.
Recently I also saw a post in /r/belgium about an exact same scam, that poster was equally baffled.
jeez man that sucks, the audacity of scammers nowadays even going to your house, i hope the police does something OP 🙁
If you’re doing an in-person transaction only accept cash. I just sold my car online (cash-only) and went as far as buying one of those “counterfeit money pens” to make sure I wasn’t getting scammed. I’m paranoid…

I didn’t need to read further. Every single instance of someone mentioning Facebook marketplace in Germany I have seen so far was about getting scammed. This platform is just not a thing in Germany and many offers are scams to explicitly target foreigners who know the platform from their home country.
It’s impressive how many people still get scammed on fake Paypal payments in Germany.
People please use ebay for valuable items… at least they have some levels of safety
Heard the laptop part for the first time, but the scam is well known, and have been here on Reddit a lot.
The german Police will do nothing as usual.

I think the biggest mistake is letting him into your home.
Unless you’re selling a washing machine, don’t let strangers into your house. Meet them at a cafe or a park.
I would be scared that this scammer knows where I live now.
