On 31 December 2024, nearly 4.3 million non-EU citizens who fled Ukraine as a consequence of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine had temporary protection status in the EU.

The EU countries hosting the highest number of beneficiaries of temporary protection from Ukraine were Germany (1 161 450 people; 27.3% of the EU total), Poland (991 630; 23.3%) and Czechia (388 625; 9.1%).

I’m curious that there are more Ukrainians in Belgium than in France! Why is that?

I understand Ireland does little or nothing for military defence, but the huge intake of Ukrainians is often overlooked

Any particular reason why Cyprus has so many refugees relative to their population? Is it for VISA stuff because of Schengen or something, or does Cyprus just have really great weather and other benefits?

Also, why is Liechtenstein listed at being under temporary protection with the EU? Do they have agreements with the EU like Switzerland does over this sort of stuff?

A big part of the refugess in Romania are Ukrainians with Romanian ancestry from former Romanian (Wallachian and Molodvan) territories in todays Ukraine.

Working in Brussels, I hear more Russian (frequency and quantity-wise) in the public transports than I hear Dutch; I hear said language everyday, wether in my province or Brussels, while I don’t hear Dutch everyday. It makes Ukrainians seem many more in the country than they actually are.
