There shouldn’t be an assumption that a person who grew up speaking English should be able to speak Irish to be a politician.

You can’t accuse a TD of being dishonest in the Dáil. So the Taoiseach said it in Irish, Verona Murphy doesn’t speak Irish. Just embarrassing stuff from Martin.

He said “Tá an Teachta Dála ag insint bréaga arís.”

Now he keeps saying he didn’t call Mary Lou a liar, because he technically didn’t. Just so petty and unnecessary.

She handled that well and the title is just inflammatory towards her.

      >During a heated exchange on housing in the Dáil today, Taoiseach Micheál Martin said to Sinn Féin leader Mary Lou McDonald:

      >“Tá an Teachta Dála ag insint bréaga arís.”

      >This translates to: “The TD is telling lies again”.

      >Under the rules of the Dáil, TDs are restricted in what they can say about their fellow TDs. Among the restrictions, TDs must not state that another member is guilty of “being deceitful”.

Now Micheál Martin’s claiming he didn’t call McDonald a liar… but isn’t there a transcript of what’s said in the Dáil?

This would be Micheal “we didn’t bail out the banks” Martin calling someone else a liar?

This fucking man is the leader of the country and he is acting like a child.

Why did you people vote for these clowns?

So Murphy got the wronged party to apologise?

      Absolute shit show

I thought Irish was a requirement for the Ceann Comhairle

“Ag insint *bréag* ” it should be. A weak plural takes singular nominitive form in the genitive which follows a verbal noun, if we are talking about people’s knowledge of Irish..

Ridiculous the CC can’t speak Irish. Must be the first ever?

Why did you not discuss your well paid employment, with Dáil Eireann?

Murphy is not fit for the CC job, but we all know why she got that gig.

She was telling lies though. If there’s a rule that says you can’t call someone a lier, there should be a rule that you can’t tell lies.

    14. The ability to converse and understand Irish should be a requirement for Junior Ministers, Ministers, the Tanaiste, the Taoiseach, and the Ceann Comhairle. Hardly an unreasonable expectation.
