I think Europe will once again find understanding and forgive, just as we have so many times before for those who have played us.

    2. RoadandHardtail on

U.S. has pretty much validated Russia’s role as a global power.

Edit: sorry, I meant great power.

    3. TwoFistsOneVi on

I surely hope that they will never be the same, because Trump’s call with Putin was a metaphorical celebratory 100th wake up call for Europe.

It’s incredible that it took an orange power hungry imbecile from the US to make people, myself included, identify as an ‘European’ more than ever before. All the problems my country has seem miniscule compared to what’s coming to our whole continent in the coming years and I’ve realised that way too late.

    4. POPcultureItsMe on

Ruble grew around 10% after the call and proposed “peace plan”.

    5. FlyingMonkeyTron on

It should have never been the same when Trump was around the first time. This is what all Republican presidents will be even when this guy is gone.

    6. Mormegil1971 on

Europe should have wakened up already when he won first time, or even before that. We must work more closely together, no matter if the nation is in NATO or the EU or not. We have to set up an european military force to at least equal Russia and start throwing military power. The US is not to be trusted anymore.

If we fail this, we will only succumb to Russian power. And we’ll deserve it, too.

    7. AwsumO2000 on

Americans have shown themselves to be foolish cowards by surrendering to putin.

Not attributes of an ally, they want to pivot to the pacific? Let them sort that shit out for themselves.

    8. thisis_not_throwaway on

history seems to always repeat itself. Europe woke up too late. all of this could have been prevented in 2014, but no one bat an eye.

And of course, that is clear since the first day of the invasion, Crimea won’t be part of Ukranian territory, that train has moved on.

Hopefully, there is still something that can be achieved, but Europe needs to start looking inside and diverting resources to improve its place in current world affairs. And the sad true is that we are really lagging behind and thus, we have such calls, between those two.

    9. nicubunu on

      >and said the US would prioritize its growing clash with China and the security of its borders over Europe’s.

Why they are so confident they can win the “clash with China” without Europe helping?

    10. YourShowerCompanion on

This is the writing on wall in thick fecal stains. If European politicians, paid and pampered generously by tax payers, are still complacent and willing to maintain a status quo of appeasement then nothing will wake them up.

In Asian people always said nobody is reliable in the world so always prepare yourself. That is what chinese people never trust the government or country .

    12. morbihann on

They should have never been the same after 2016 yet here we are.

    13. Natural_Public_9049 on

Cool. We got warned not to talk to Putin, we kept reiterating that point among ourselves. When Scholz fucked up, it was a hilariously bad attempt that sort of damaged our positions but not so much.

The US president calling to “deal” with Putin? Trump might’ve as well offered his and our collective assholes for russian plugging.

    14. Wonderful-Basis-1370 on

I think the US will not be the same after four years of this orange man.

The craziest thing is that his supporters probably believe he’s some high-level chess player. Putin will outsmart him at any moment and manipulate him into signing away the entire country.

    15. TeaBoy24 on

People will blame the US and trump, but this is really a fault of the EU and the individual Nations States.

US can do what US does. If EU was not incapable, the phone call would not have such an effect, if any at all.

Heck, if EU was not obtuse, the phone call wouldn’t even happen as US wouldn’t ever hold the lead over European defence.

This is just pathetic show of the effects of the EU.

    16. aieeevampire on

We seem to be doing a speed run of the 1930’s, so I am guessing this was the Molotov-Ribbentrop equivelant

    17. FantasyFrikadel on

Europe will continue business as usual as long as it is possible.

    18. America is not a friend or an allie of Europe, this should be clear now.

    19. One of the aims is this, to destroy the eu, giving part of what remains to russia, taking it away from china, and taking the rest

    20. KeithCGlynn on

Honestly, we give Fico and Orban shit for less. Europe has to take the strategic initiative to detach from the US and fight Russia without American support. Hopefully, we can form strong trade relations with latin america, Canada, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand. The 4 years will be tough but even if a moderate comes to the white house after Trump, the trust is permanently gone. There will now be a strong portion of americans who oppose liberal values (in the classic sense, not what the US distort it to mean) and seek isolationism and hostility towards their “allies”.

    21. TekniskStorm on

Peace should be easy, right? Russia should go home, leave all of Ukraine, and promise not to invade again, while the U.S. and NATO send peacekeeping soldiers to the border between them and Ukraine.

    22. SpiritInBkack on

Trump is taking focus on recourses in the Ukraine. Europe is inter way and so he’s going to haggle with Putin and calling it a deal. A mineral deal at least

    23. Leader of the free world surrenders..well played dugin.. everyone laughed at your plans and said you were a fool.. guess history proved you right.

    24. BerpBorpBarp on

With the constant threats on Greenland and Europe, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a Molotov-Ribbentrop pact between the US and Russia in the near future

    25. The americans, as always play their game in the global chess board, and Europe finds itself, one more time, lost.

Europeans will pay for the decisions that have been made over the we last three years.

    26. AdminEating_Dragon on

I sure hope so, but don’t underestimate the greed of voters and politicians.

At the first sign that the USA wants to go back to the same, they will happily oblige..

    27. TylerD158 on

      Selling out allies.
      Rapidly turning into a plutocracy.
I am out of optimism or fantasy how the U.S. can come back from this.

It is sad to see the US in decay.

    28. dumboldnoob on

Chamberlain and Hitler in Munich vibes. but this time the victims are fighting back.

    30. notroseefar on

The phrase “US relations with US will never be the same” is being said a lot now with a ton of places.

    31. DvD_Anarchist on

People are too dramatic thinking that the EU is weak militarily. Even without the US we could perfectly deal with Russia. Europeans need to believe more in themselves and not have this defeating attitude and one of vassalage toward the US. One thing is developing our own industries and spending a bit more in the military, and another is getting into a militaristic rhetoric that only leads to disaster and war. Idk about you, but I’m not fucking fighting in wars caused by capitalism and imperialism.

    32. Randalf_the_Black on

Should just continue keeping Russia out of European trade, even when the war ends.. Fuck those cunts, the Russian leadership can’t be trusted.

    33. A_Monsanto on

I hope Europe smells the coffee and gets out of bed and realizes that national defense is not something you can do on autopilot.

It’s also something you don’t want to rely on third parties for. At the moment we are the USA’s little bitch on this front. I hope we change that and become self reliant, as it should be. And in the process we reduce the USA’s geological footprint in our back yard.

Let’s create a military industrial complex in Europe, producing on a large scale our own defense weapons. It’s a high skill, labor market, with IP touching a lot of critical sectors (space, telecoms etc).

We can spend 5% of our budget on defense. It doesn’t have to be on American weapons, though. Let’s spend 5% of our budget developing and producing our own superweapons.

    34. Icy-Mix-3977 on

As American, we have been getting insulted by Europeans my whole life. Yet we paid more than almost any of your countries year after year for your protection. The us has never, from my perspective, benefited from our mutual relationship.

I wish you all luck, but I hope we are out.

    35. AvgCapitalismW on

I like how you people complain how weak Europe is, but how is that news?

We let Ukraine dance on our noses during the last 3 years. Germany let them bomb NS2 and then just covered it up which is arguably the biggest scandal in recent times in Germany.

Ukraine itself thinks Europe is weak and that they are running the show, the US once again shows how its done and puts Ukraine into its place.

    36. frankyboson on

pathetic and weak Europe should have woken up years ago, we should have already been a more federal union and with common spending on many things, like the army, a fraction of our combined GDP could probably create the strongest army in the world. No longer depending on American defense, being able to resolve our conflicts, finally exercising an influence worthy of the message that Europe carries in its founding principles. It should have started by defending Ukraine. Shame on our spineless coward politician

    37. US relations with Europe will never be the same after Trump* FTFY

We don’t have to run everything we say, think, or do by you. You’re not our Governance Board, you’re not our oversight committee.

    39. stonkDonkolous on

Europe needs to unite immediately. Don’t think the US won’t make a move against Europe in the next decade when their democracy is officially over.

    40. BarskiPatzow on

I’ve been saying this for years. USA is not an ally to Europe, they just view Europe as their sphere of influence.

    41. NickVanDoom on

us – disgusting… trying to make russias war acceptable. europe really needs to finally wake up and focus on the really important things now. unfortunately the enemy is already in the house, in some countries in power & control. hard times ahead…
