We should understand that Trump doesn’t care about such fancies as a ‘rule based global order’. He certainly doesn’t care about defending Europe and I don’t he particularly cares about US strategic interests. He wants the Nobel peace prize for himself, that’s it, that’s all he cares about.

Europe should stop looking across the Atlantic for a guarantor of their own security.

Honestly its actually pretty smart what putin is doing here . He sends trump to peace talks and if the ukraine doesnt agree to these “peace” talks trump(putin) can just say ahh i tried but ukraine doesnt really want peace and just pulls the plug on aid until ukraine agrees to whatever trump(putin) says .

Zelensky still has the opportunity to state firmly and clearly in public:
“Ukraine does not and will not negotiate with terrorists like Putin”.

This will be the best way out for Ukraine, and I’m sure the entire civilised world will support it in this.
And a great spanking for Trump.

I grew up in an era where it seemed that we were constantly involved in pointless desert wars — where dead soldiers’ names would be read out on the car radio every day on the way to school — because our friend was attacked in 2001, and we wanted to be there for them. 

Then the longest peacetime Europe has ever seen was shattered in 2022, and the US effectively now turns a blind eye.

Unless we’re directly implicated, I honestly cannot imagine a US-led Article 5 trigger coming to any fruition next time around. All that blood spilled in _proving_ that we’re robust allies, and friends, has meant absolutely nothing to this compromised freak.

If I had a nickel for every time Ukraine’s future was discussed by other countries in Munich, I would have 2 nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird.

This sub can’t figure out what it’s mad about. One minute it was bitching that Trump hadn’t ended the war yet, the next it was bitching that Trump had called Putin but not involved Zelensky, now it’s bitching that Trump is going to bring Ukraine and Russia to a European city with representatives from around Europe to discuss the terms.

If Europe wanted to swing the tide of the war, it could’ve. Germany, France, Spain, the UK, and Italy alone have enough power and money to easily have kicked back the Russians. You chose to sit on your asses and let the US spend the most on military defenses for Ukraine, now you’re going to see the consequences of your own inaction when you don’t get to sit at the adult table
