US is backing out of its nato commitments so won’t have a say in the matter.
Even without the US, NATO is significantly more powerful than Russia IF they stick together and rebuild their military capability (eg Poland; they are not fucking around).
It’s sad that this needs to even be said. Hope we put more pressure on the US, but I doubt it will make a difference.
Even if not NATO in name, Ukraine deserves and needs an international defence alliance with other European nations and allies futher afield like Canada and Australia.
Let’s normalise saying Ukraine should be in NATO because they should be. But if the US messes around, statements like this hopefully set the groundwork for an alternative.
It’s an empty gesture. He can lose nothing by backing Ukraine since the US is vetoing.
