America is currently busy looking at Pig Putin for leadership.

He’s correct. Europe must stop debating and start doing. Start budgeting for a large unified military, or the EU will eventually be picked apart by Russian, Chinese and American authoritarians.

Like a walking caricature… The proper US military must be absolutely livid.

Then Europe is free to do whatever it wants without US interference?

They’ll howl when Europe starts to ignore their demands.

    5. harmlessdonkey on

Europe should prepare and once prepared, ask the US to remove their bases from the EU.

    6. The US tells us very clearly that their national interests differ from ours. More European integration MUST be the answer. We need a EU constitution, a complete overhaul of the decision making processes and a common European military. The huge challenge is that we need it quickly. Countries that want to try their luck on their own must be shed.

Has there ever been a similar case of a nation willingly destroying all of its soft power in a month?

Then dont look to europe to get money, support or anything else

USA: We are the leader of the free world.

USA: Do not look to America for leadership.

Lmao, you can’t make this up. Let’s rework how NATO’s military leadership structure looks like. If the US won’t come to help and we can’t seriously expect the US to do anything from this point forward, then the leadership of SACEUR can no longer be exclusively held by US commanders who double as EUCOM commanders.

      He’s ironically right.

Our voters need to accept that the USA as an ally is gone, and they will need to bear the cost of Europe arming itself.

Not the millionaires, not the mega companies. The individual, average voters will bear the cost.

This is where we get stuck – our politicians know that while the abstract idea of an independent Europe is popular, the not at all abstract concept of added costs to fund this independence, is not popular at all.

They are doing a great job bringing this message across.

Obviously, todays US are neither interested nor capable to take on any global leadership role. They seem to got tired being a world power and decided to become an isolated backwater without allies and influence instead.

It’s sad to lose an old ally, but Europe can grow from this change.

So, don’t let the Americans negotiate and dictate terms in the Ukraine war. Got it 🫡

Don’t worry we are not, we haven’t seen any since 21. January 2025.

Yes, the US have been losing their leadership in the EU during the last few years.

Obviously, the EU leaders were aware of this whole process and started preparing for it at least a year ago. It began with the creation of a united diplomatic position for talks with the new US administration. As an illustration of that, we can take a united declaration made by France, the UK, Italy, Germany, Poland, and other countries to continue support for Ukraine right after the news about the deal between Trump and Putin.

Also, the UK has preserved the Rammstein format and replaced the US there. Then, they decided to increase the support package for Ukraine from 3.4 to 4.5 billion pounds. What is even more interesting is that the UK is preparing a big defense deal with the EU. The previous prime minister had prepared it previously, and it will be finalized by the current one after the elections in Germany. Aside from that, the UK will replace the US in a lot of processes taking place in the EU.

So, in the coming weeks, we can see the formation of a new defense alliance between the EU countries (the UK, Germany, France, Poland, Italy, and others). It will allow the EU to rely less on the US and conduct a more independent policy. We have heard these ideas for months from various leaders of the EU countries. And it looks like they will come true.

I think the US will soon find out that the EU is much different than it used to be. From a broader perspective, if the new US administration continues threatening Denmark with Greenland, imposing tariffs, and doing other stupid things, they can face a much more powerful response.

There are a lot of options on the table, including tariffs on US goods, forcing US companies to move production to the EU, reducing purchases for US weapons and military equipment, etc.

So yes, the EU is changing.

      >Hegseth hectored the Europeans to increase their defense budgets: “President Trump has called for 5 percent [of GDP allocated to defense], and I agree!”

No shit Sherlock. Y’all are just pawns and yes-men placed by Trump to obey all his demands. Obviously you’re not gonna contradict him.

      >In 2024, the Pentagon’s budget represented about 2.7 percent of U.S. GDP. (Five percent of America’s 2024 GDP would indicate a defense budget of close to $1.5 trillion, so let’s see what Donald Trump’s budget request looks like.)

      *Lol. Lmao even.*

I haven’t looked favourably upon the USA post 2016 tbh.

2025 makes sense as it’s always what that racist shit hole was turning into. All it took was one man and they went mask off with their pro Nazi beliefs.

They want to be German speaking and part of a glorious empire so badly.

No, look to America for satire and disaster (and for how not to do it)

      It’s so weird to
Me how for years this sub Reddit has been talking about the need for independence from America and a European army etc etc. but the second American starts talking about leaving the continent and handing over security to Europeans, it’s met here with such vitriol. This is what you guys have been asking for.
