Overall I see this as a positive thing, even with the healy-rays attached, we need some solid infrastructure investment. I would have liked to see some direct investment in the public transit infrastructure along with this, rail and bus

I want tar on the local greenway, the bike is getting dirty.
Bigging up the Shannon crossing/Killaloe bypass is a little funny. I know it’s how these funds work, that you have multiple allocations over the years, but at the same time, the project is nearly done. It’s due to open in the coming months.
[Dronehawk has a good video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VPeu_zbp_U), it’s a substantial project, including an upgrade to the road connecting Killaloe over to the M8. Up until now Killaloe/Ballina has only had a one lane road bridge across the Shannon, with flow controlled by lights.
Every road will be like the F1 track that is the county bounds to kilgarvan road.
Edit: but more importantly this goes back to how infrastructure used to be prioritised in Ireland. Visible infrastructure gets all the funding. It’s the reason that particularly the waste water sector was so under funded for years.
If you are a council and have a choice between a new roundabout that everyone sees, or a new wastewater plant or network that nobody sees, they pick the visible one.
Wouldn’t be the “Heavily invested in local plant hire/civil engineering business with a reputation for using shady tactics to strongarm competing firms away from state work” Healy Raes, no?

Hopefully that’ll include a bypass or two for Letterkenny to stop the through traffic that doesn’t need to be going into Letterkenny.

Brilliant. We might actually get some infrastructure out of this boom before its gone. Rainy day fund’s are fine, but they’ll just be used to bail out developers in the next crash. Feel like we’ve almost wasted this boom and regular Joe might miss out.
I’d prefer proper commuter rail, but the M20 would be nice.
In fairness to the Greens, the introduction of the Local Link services has made a big difference around here. It doesn’t have to be all about roads, but the notion that roads aren’t an important part of the mix kind of ignores transport realities in Ireland.
Any time and discussion is brought up about public transit it’s the usual “how can we afford this” and “where is this money coming from” yet we seem to have a giant pot for spending on yet more roads. God forbid we’d spend even a fraction on public transit.

Now the unsexy part is well all that road infrastructure has to be repaired because cars are heavy. Roads are an environmental disaster (not that anyone cares of course) but also an economic one
I dislike these lads immensely but I do respect their hustle – essentially giving Government contracts to themselves in broad daylight. They are the product, final boss almost, of a broken system that prioritizes parochial interests over the national interest with the former almost always winning out. Terrible for Ireland collectively, but terrific for themselves and their constituents which is why they’re continually returned to office.
Great, we absolutely need physical roads between places that are in good condition.
As much as public transport s needed this is equally as important. It should not be a case of one or the other.

I’m torn between the part of me that hates the Healy-Raes and their stranglehold over Kerry Politics, and the part of me that hopes this money means Killarney Bypass is getting more traction.
