Extraordinary figure that’s unsustainable and money that could be spent building houses, hospitals to name but two things for a start.
There’s a lot of money being made out of this. That’s just the accommodation figure by the way.
The legal people are also coining it.
There has to be a better way surely?
The level of appeasing that is going on for Russia and Israel is not going to stem the flow of people seeking international protection.
That’s an unsustainable cost however.
This is why this accommodation provision is now treated as an industry so that certain people can feed off taxpayers money instead of it being used to solve housing crisis while our lazy government facilitates it.

Needs to be at least 4-5 times that tbh to cater for the flow. 100k people going to be added every year and we need to provide proper accommodation, not repurposed hotel rooms and tent cities. Proper homes so people can put roots down.

Nothing wrong with helping people in need but surely that figure is completely bonkers for a nation the size of us. With everything else being equal that figure alone will attract all sorts of unsavoury interest both on the receiving and the providing end. Its nuts.

Another key figure in that article is that over 90% of all IPAS accommodation is provided commercially. That is nearly €1billion euro of tax payer money going straight to private interests with almost no oversight, procurement or scrutiny. It is very difficult not to come to the conclusion that vested interests are happy to keep this buried when you see the level of attention a bike shed can generate.
And yet, the Irish people sit by and let it happen. Look at how Denmark is flourishing because their people simply don’t let the government do shit like this. No “refugee”(economic migrant that ripped up their passport on the way there) crisis there.

1bn euro would pay for an awful lot of compulsory purchase orders and building new dedicated IPAS centres.

Honestly at this point I’d just hope the MNCs we rely on pull out for one reason or another. Leave a massive hole in our finances and see them continue to pay this growing fund…. Sadly we need a sizeable recession to impact this.

The true cost of this is much higher.
These hotels, B&B’s,
Hostels ect which have decided to move into this scam industry can lay off a
lot of their staff as they can operate these places at a much lower standard of
care then a normal accommodation business could.
This leads to less PAYE/PRSI being generated for the government due to less people working and
paying tax (leading to some being on the dole).
But not only that, you also then lose these hotels ect to the general population who would have booked
a few nights in them and would end up having dinner out close by as well as a
few beers ect. Again, costing the government a lot in VAT receipt’s as well as
more job losses in the businesses that these tourists would have stayed in.
Just look at how much in reality
this is costing the exchequer, and you can easily see then how much of a scam
is really going on because its nothing but negative after negative(both financially
as well of politically) so why has it
gone on like this for the last 5 years? There has to be hidden corruption probably
using crypto to keep it all hidden from us.

The lads who run these IPAS centres style themselves as successful businessman but all they’ve done is ring up an old buddy in the govt and wrangled a couple of mil a month for an old hotel daddy left them in the will. No innovation, no actual work, just crony capitalism at its very worst

This cannot continue, we have so many homeless people, families , hidden homeless that aren’t even counted in the figures , this country is at breaking point with every service billions of taxpayers money wasted , when will people decide enough is enough.

This is insane. There’s too much money being thrown around. Politicians, their friends and family all will get in on this and milk it for all it’s worth. I have no problem helping genuine asylum in small numbers that reflect are small island and population. Protecting small town and villages. But Jesus letting in hundreds of thousands just so a few can profit from it while the country suffers. Paris, Bradford Birmingham Manchester etc are KIPS now.
