I’d say a lot of people do it, they just don’t blab about it in the jury room.
Was a juror recently. It’s tempting to do it but I didn’t. Googled after the trial. They had multiple convictions for similar crimes over the years
I presume this happens quite frequently, the difference here being that the jurer seemingly told the rest of the jury what they had found.
Doing something and staying quiet is one thing.
Doing something and bragging about it is completely different level.

Trial last year fell apart because a juror member went to the scene of an traffic incident that killed a man and was blabbing about it in the juror room after being explicitly told not to do their own research 🤦🏻♂️
Are some ppl that incapable of not being the centre of attention they need to do crap like this and endanger a verdict ffs!!
If the witness past and background can be asked about by defense so should the defendant unreliability be prodded around by prosecution. So seeking unreliable online information would not be necessary. This limitation is not practiced in a lot of countries.

I understand why this is in place but I find it grossly unfair that this is barred but a complete exposure of the rape victims sexual preferences and past, underwear choice and behaviour can be used.
Knew a friend who was on a jury once for a trial. I spoke to him regularily during it and he told me he was doing his own research on the defendant every evening when he came home on the internet as well as visiting some of the areas involved in the case on his Sunday drives, because he wanted additional information that he believed the trial was not presenting. I’d say many jurors are like that, curiosity is human nature.
I was on a jury once, and I researched the defendants’ background (that included similar previous convictions) on the internet regularily during the trial, as I assume most jurors do. Curiosity is human nature.

I was a juror on a case a while ago and the judges instructions were really clear , don’t do any research on the defendent. As a result of this persons stupidity, the state have now wasted money on a trial and no potential justice for the victim.
