23-year-old Bohdan Ozimok, a soldier from Volyn hand in the war. He is now preparing for prosthetic rehabilitation.

Bohdan Ozimok says he has loved shooting since childhood.

“I started my career as a rifleman-telephonist and worked my way up to senior sergeant. Unfortunately, I didn’t serve in that position for long,” he says. In November last year, during a combat mission in Kharkiv region, he was wounded. While retreating from a position, a drone struck him.

“The impact hit directly on my rifle—by the way, a Ukrainian-made one. All that was left of it was the barrel, but it saved me. I was holding it in my right hand, and unfortunately, my hand was instantly destroyed,” he recalls.

After being injured, he was treated with a tourniquet, evacuated, and then came under enemy fire again. The vehicle transporting them was hit, forcing them to continue on foot.

Now, Bohdan is preparing for prosthetic rehabilitation. He says he has no regrets.

“I feel like nothing has really changed. I just don’t have a hand—end of story. Sometimes, I get sad when I look in the mirror and see it’s gone. It was such a beautiful hand… I dreamed of wearing a wedding ring on it,” he says.

So sorry for your loss. That is an incredible sacrifice.

If it’s any consolation, many countries in the West (including US & UK) wear wedding rings on the LEFT hand.
