220k a week? 🙈 bye bye tourism in youghal. Absolutely outrageous. Ireland is on its knees and we unfairly put these people in a hotel .. then what ? All from different backgrounds sounds like a nightmare as it can’t be easy. But surely dumping everyone in a random hotel in youghal which is in serious need of tourism, isn’t a solution. This nonsense needs to stop. Robust solutions are not put in place. What are these people to do all day in a hotel , and for how long. . It’s a disaster of a plan. And happening all over the country
Time to forget about Ireland, the horse has bolted. We’re quickly becoming one of the biggest shitholes in Europe.
This is great for us , we pay to house them , we pay more money because hotels have less supply so they crank up their rates . Less people come here because of this so business’s do worse for the local economy .

This is absolute madness. Economically this will be another huge blow to local tourism. Then there are all the problems dropping hundreds of people who are taxpayer dependent into an area brings.
There are all the short-term problems, but people also need to consider the longer term implications. Presumably the people in the refugee centre and their children will eventually want to buy their own house or more than likely the state will do so for them. This extra demand will drive up property prices negatively impacting domestic first-time buyers as well as others.
These people are going to need doctors, medical attention, education and state services. These are all exclusive finite limited resources, i.e. if one person is seeing a doctor or taking up a hospital space et cetera another person cannot and spaces are limited.
I can understand why as a rational economic actor the Hotel owner is writing out the entire complex, its guaranteed income and lower costs, the state should be prohibited from making such mass rentals.
The Irish government needs to start acting in the best interest of the Irish people, no one else will. Some will say there are international obligations and whatnot which is fair enough. But most other world leaders are tearing them up and ignoring them.
We should do the same.

We were and have been far too liberal and small places like this are the places to suffer, where they don’t have a loud enough voice to be heard

Ireland’s gonna end up in the same situation as the UK but worse, on a downward spiral with no hope for the youth.
We implemented the same social housing policies as thatcher, have the same planning and regulation issues as the UK, and now we’re handling the asylum situation exactly the same.
10 years time Ireland is just going to be a shittier version of an already shitty UK.

A absolute gem of a hotel. The walk from there into the town of Youghal was fab. Still is fab I guess…..

We were booked into one of the houses there for a week just before they “closed” and got a call to say booking was cancelled and refunded with no reason.
When this hotel finally opens up to the public again, safe to say I won’t be staying there.
Just pure and utter greed from the owners. But, can you blame them?
