what kind of violence? some kind of violence normally get more coverage than others. A murder more than a slap, etc. So this is not quite precise. But I am sure, even without this statistic, that there is bias

Axel Springer (Bild,Welt,Politico….) does it best

    3. 33% is still quite a lot, and a large proportion of Germans are “new Germans”.

It’s not easy to interpret statistics!

    4. Elfmeter on

And in addition to this, a recent data based study shows, that there is no correlation between migration and crimes. Indeed the 33% are solely explainable through places of residence, i.e. migrants living more often in citys and more often in poorer quarters. There is no significance in other attributes.

mate I agree with you in general, but you don’t make a good point here, because all you show is that foreigners are overrepresented when it comes to criminal activity, which is the opposite of what you wanted to show.

Anything to keep the sheep distracted. While even this statistic shows that refugees/immigrants have a higher rate of violence (which IMO is a solvable political problem that has to do with liberals and liberal-conservatives wanting the economic benefits of immigration without willing to actually make the investment to make sure those people don’t turn into an underclass), it’s far from Europe’s biggest problem right now. There’s the energy crisis, rising inequality, lagging economy, declining social services, demographic crisis, cost of living, not to mention two hostile world powers actively threatening our existence.

By making immigration as scary-looking as possible, the Russophile parties want to distract from more pressing issues that they are much less popular on. Even if the far-right’s “remigration” plans are very societally destructive and cruel if you think about it even a little, they at least make emotional sense to voters, unlike “ban forms of renewable energy and start buying gas from a country currently trying to conquer us” or “deregulate and privatise everything”. I very strongly recommend not voting on immigration issues this election.

Ok, lets check how many are born in Germany and how many of them Indentify with Germany and got a typically German namen. Also lets check how many of them are since 4 Generations in Germany.

Since u got also ratet as Germany when u have got a German Passport.

Media usually are not covering family violence. Wife is screaming on husband and husband beats wife — nobody interested in that.

    9. Far-Solid-9805 on

I don’t want this statistic, I want to know the names. How many crimes are committed by Halili, Dzeferovic, Hoxha & co. and how many by Müller, Mayer etc.

    10. Terracotta01 on

33% is a horrible rate for a group that has many people fleeing from shithole countries in it.

    11. VilitchTheCurseling on

so according to this statistic the groupe thats only 16% of the populatin commits 33% of the crimes? i feel thats not what you wanted to express with that statistic but i dno…

    12. DecoupledPilot on

Well, in any such numbers the percentage of the category is needed, not of the total.

How much percent of the population is foreign, and how many percent of those are suspects. Then the same for non foreign and we have a better base to compare.

Then I would filter even more into catogiries like: emotional trauma and poverty groups and also compare those.

Most likely outcome I would expect is that trauma and poverty in all of the humans is the main driver for criminality, not where they are from. Where they are from might be the cause of the trauma, sure, though that makes the entire answer as to what to solve different

    13. Feeling-Creme-8866 on

I understand that, but the following point:

      – the citizen knows that there are German criminals

      – now he knows that 33% are foreigners aka – kick them out and 33% less problems

It would make more sense to calculate the total number of foreigners in Germany, of which x% are criminals. But whether that helps is another matter.

    14. NoPhilosopher6111 on

The difference is you don’t want to import criminals. People coming to join a society should add something positive. That’s how it is in the rest of the world. It’s only Europe that accepts masses of people who bring a net negative to the country.

    15. Massive-Ordinary-338 on

Just saying: It has become quite easy to obtain a German passport recently. These people would then also be counted as Germans in this statistic.

    16. Moosplauze on

From a scientific (criminology) standpoint these charts tell a story that isn’t easy to understand without background knowledge.

When you look at statistics like that you have to break down by what type of person each of these crimes are usually commited. Most violent crimes are commited by males and most violent crimes are commited by young individuals. When you look at the sex and age of non-german citizens in the demography you will find that young males are overrepresented while for germans old people are overrepresented in the demography while the sexes are pretty equal. This by itself means that it’s natural that non-german citizens will be overrepresented for violent crimes when compared to the demographic. When you also take wealth and education into account you will see the same picture, immigrants are poorer and less educated and those factors are also relevant in violent crimes.

It can still be true that non-german citizens commit more violent crimes though and when you look into it you can find reasons for that in the predominant muslim culture but also in factors that evolve from being a minority in sometimes racist environment.

To understand the truth, you have to take a deep look instead of just judging by a statistic posted in the media. This is true for almost everything sadly, so anyone who is quick to judge entire groups of people will find themselves in the wrong most of the time – and sadly won’t ever know thanks to the kind of news bubbles most people live in. It’s everyones own responsibility to question any statistic they’ve been presented and look into the underlaying facts.

    17. Island_Monkey86 on

For none german speakers. (Gewalt)täter, is referrring to people who commit acts of violence (violence = gewalt). If you take in to account that forigners account for 15% of Germanys population then this is statistic offers a serious cause for concern.

    18. I mean, it’s really rare that media mentions nationality of non Germans. It’s standard practice to only mention the nationality if the crime was committed by a German national. Your statistic shows 36,7%. I really doubt this number at least if we are talking about the established press and not some far right media which is only really consumed by people are are part of the bubble already.

Also, I don’t see how this statistic does your cause any good. It clearly shows that 1/3 of crime is committed by foreigners which indicates that the prejudice of the criminal migrant would be statistically true (this is not my opinion but clearly the data out of your own info graphic).

Also, I think a big part here is that when you look in the police static, the majority of reported (not necessarily convicted) violent crimes are domestic abuse, which is rarely reported by the media because most cases are “he said – she said” and more importantly aren’t really available for the media because of privacy concerns (someone molesting a minor family member, a men beating his wife usually don’t get a press release by the police).

    19. LitmusPitmus on

Like that in the UK as well. 70-75% of people convicted of knife carrying are white but ask the general public or look at media reports and its a “black issue”. And before the per capita people jump down my throat, I am aware of how that works, the disparity in reporting doesn’t account for that though.

    20. Chaoshero5567 on

Over 8 incidebrs since end of january are under represented, cus the attacker was german

    21. Things are nuanced.

      1) This still shows overrepresentation of foreigners among violent criminals.

      2) while this can be causally explained by other factors (e.g. socioeconomics and age), it does not change any conclusion. Taking on extra poor people is still a choice people may not want to make, even decoupled from nationality.
The key is the perceived optionality. (= „We could get rid of these particular poor people“)

      3) not all violent crimes are typically reported in the media. E.g. domestic violence is a common police issue and counted as a violent crime, but there is never a press article about something as mundane as a german guy hitting his wife. Maybe crimes committed by foreigners are flashier, or more extreme, or more public.
And maybe the optionality plays a role again: its more interesting to hear about foreign criminals, because, in a way, they are the criminals we chose to live with, not the ones we are stuck with anyway.

      4) „Foreigners“ is a diffuse proxy category anyway for what people are mad about. They are not talking about Austrians living in Bavaria. There is no ethnic/racial police documentation in Europe, as one might see in the US, just local sample studies.

Ultimately anyone interested in a somewhat humane interaction with less privileged people and places should recognize that it is only sustainable with some kind of social consensus behind it.

And getting back to that may require giving up some outdated and frankly silly positions on the nobility and innocence of anyone foreign. Everyone is opportunistic, everyone wants more. The wrong approach is to take numbers like this chart and use them to pretend that there is, in fact, no issue at all.

    22. Impossible-Ticket424 on

      Which is still over-representing foreigner.
And these statistics count everyone with a German passport as German, while a large proportion still has a migrant background. But conveniently this isn’t taken into the statistics.

    23. BiasedBastard on

Germany right now is so similar to what happened in Sweden around 2015.
Stats like this were thrown around all the time but after the last decade of bombs and gun violence no one really tries any more

    24. Piotrek9t on

Lets not forget how keen certain media outlets are to somehow link any criminal to some form of foreign heritage

    25. Nick19922007 on

Lol. Noone in this thread is talking about the media coverage. Everyone is just talking about the overrepresentation of foreign crime.
Nobody cares at all. Thats why they are so much decepted by russian propaganda. They just want to hate someone. No solutions.

    26. No-Reflection-869 on

That graphic makes no sense. In the media tables it is said that it is based on the origin the media says.
In the polizeistatistik column it is not said what the data is determining ausländer or deutscher. I think it probably is not the origin but rather the current nationality
