Portugal had a dictatorship as a founding member of NATO in 1949 all the way to 1974 with an actual censorship board, and the US never threatened withdrawing their troops.

But the realist in me says this is very unlikely to happen because someone in the military hierarchy will remind them, that without their military bases in Germany there is no American Empire. They are crucial for military operations in North Africa and the Middle East.
