So…hypothetically…if Romania hadn’t bent a knee to Bruxelles and annulled its election…there’s no way this service could be turned off for Romania…right…?

I wouldn’t get too excited. The program was meant to be deployed in 2027 but is allready delayed till 2030, and frankly, as someone who works in space, will near certainly be delayed again, I would consider it a genuine miracle if these are operational by 2032, much less 2030.

That’s not going to be up to bar. In this, there is no replacement for launch cadence.

We need Prometheus engine or equivalent, and we need a 21st century rocket, Ariane 6 isn’t it. And EU is not moving fast enough on this, if we don’t pick up the pace, the Chinese will make a better SpaceX copy than we will.

It’s 290 satellites vs 35,000 Starlink satellites, and those 290 aren’t even over Europe the whole time.

Will cost more to put in place than Starlink as well.

It’s a ‘competitor’ in the way Ariane 6 is a competitor to Falcon 9 – in other words it’s a typical bloated, slow, overpriced European solution to something that is already been done better elsewhere.

Which is fine if the goal is to have an independent system, but to frame it as a competitor, that’s a stretch.

Can Europe use https://oneweb.net/ for now? It’s a subsidiary of a French Eutelsat Group providing broadband satellite Internet services in low Earth orbit (LEO). Satellites are made by Airbus. It’s already here and is working. IRIS system is years away from functioning.

Why is it so hard to match Starlink? Is the US that much smarter in tech than EU? Dont we have any IT specialists that know how to build something like that?
