Like everywhere else in the western world where the social media manosphere illness infects young man. It will get worse and probably a long time not better.

    2. The far right thrives on male insecurity. Young men are getting radicalized by toxic “alpha” grifters like Tate, Musk, and Rogan, who sell them anti-woke rage and blame feminism/immigrants for their struggles. Add in the “male loneliness epidemic”, partly fueled by this delusional idea that men *deserve* a girlfriend, like women are items in a vending machine. Instead of working on themselves, they blame women for not “distributing” themselves fairly, then demand emotional labor from the very people they resent.

It certainly doesn’t help either that left parties often label all young men as “part of the problem”, lumping them in with the same rich, out-of-touch boomers who caused this mess.

Now, in the comments (as of now), there are the usual views on why so many men voted for AFD.

However, I myself am surprised that AFD is the 2nd most popular party among women, beating out both CDU and SPD.

While there are definitely gender specific reasons as to why more men voted for AFD than women, I think hyperfocusing on men only runs the risk of ignoring the factors that pull both men *and* women towards AFD.

From my experience (albeit based on me living in the UK and Croatia, not in Germany), not all men who vote far right are these lonely, unintelligent, incel losers as they are often portrayed online. Most of the people I met who support the far right are very often upper middle class people, with steady jobs (lots of them in tech or other engineering fields), with BA or MA (interestingly, people with a PhD that I had a chance to meet are almost exclusively left or far left voters), and in steady relationships or marriage.

Everybody talking about the far-right but no one talking about the far-left. Die Linke is not a normal party either, they’re socialist populists with communist roots. They were against NATO and against ‘militarization’ up until the point that Russia invaded Ukraine.

But at least they reversed their position. True. But that’s the same as someone agiting to close down the fire department and reversing their decision only when their house catches on fire.

Is there a link? I’d like to read the actual publication

That’s the power of the algorithm. Especially TikTok. The AfD had quite successful targeted young men on TikTok especially by giving them advice on how to behave like a real men and other misogynistic bullshit.

And in the last couple of weeks I’ve seen that the Linke dominated my algorithm on TikTok. I don’t know why their content was suggested to me but it their content had thousands of likes.

I was suspecting an even bigger difference, that doesn’t look that bad.

Young people see a political establishment that doesn`t feel like it cares about them in large and a capitalist system that is becoming unsustainable. So they want change. The message is pretty clear.

    9. Particular-Star-504 on

Interesting how only the extremist parties have women leading them, co-leader of Die Linke Heidi Reichinnek, AfD’s Alice Weidel, and Sahra Wagenknecht.

    10. lTheReader on

Young people who have not benefitted from the status quo at all and only got poorer than their parents want to see change? No way!

Its not even surprising that young people are choosing “radical” or “polarising” or far-X parties. It’s just disheartening that they choose far-right. I am fking disappointed in my gender is all.

    11. Both young German women and young German men are pretty fucking stupid, just in a marginally different way

    12. The men will also say that women need the AFD because they are scared at night. That they are scared of them doesnt count

    13. Jakexbox on

Over 50% of young women voted for extremist parties and almost 50% of young men. That’s scary.

And yes: Linke, AfD and BSW are all extreme.

    14. New-Fan8798 on

Why are people so surprised by this. It’s happening in lots of Western countries. Young (predominantly white) men feel they have been left behind by old (predominantly white) men, especially politicians. They vote for alternative political parties, whether they agree with all the policies or not, because they no longer want to prop up “the establishment” like their parents.

    15. zippopwnage on

I don’t understand these young people who vote for extremist. I expected to be more adults that are over 40 and had way less access to education and such. But what the heck.

I also don’t understand why the “left” don’t stop with what they destroy them in votes. I don’t understand why illegal immigrants are such a “taboo” subject. I’ve talked with a lot of people and seem like a lot of them vote with extremists like these because they don’t like the illegal immigrants. I’m not talking about the part of the idiotic racists that wants all immigrants out no matter what. But personally, I’ve never heard the left talking against illegal ones, so there’s a part of your votes.

Then another huge part, that I know it’s a bad discussion to have, is about LGBTQ. Even here in Romania, we have people who vote with Calin Georgesc extremist just because he’s against the LGBTQ community. I’m not against them, heck I don’t even care, but at this point, we should win votes and talk about including everyone and be more vague because again, you lose so many votes because of idiots.

Go to power, try to do good for the country and the inclusion and everything else will follow.

I’m also sick of the people in power in my country, but god damn it, voting for extremists isn’t a “change” that we need.

    16. Now give us a diagram that shows which parties dominated TikTok.

    17. tornado28 on

I’m an American with limited knowledge of German politics, may I ask why people are so concerned about the AFD coming to power? It looks like they got about 20% of the vote, and my understanding is that the other major parties are reluctant to form governments with them. Given this do they really have any viable path to power?

    18. TheAlpak on

Blimey, 54 % of young women voted for idiots… this is gone make dating more challenging

    19. UrbanCyclerPT on

It’s the same frightening scenario everywhere
The left and moderates are losing ground by not being able to engage young men. It looks like men, no matter how young they are have to be to blame for what their ancestors did. And this is antagonizing them. The left should start losing the “blame them all” “patriarchy” “abusers” speech every time when referring to men, especially young ones that don’t even know why they individually are being blamed or what for.
Then on the extreme right they have the “alpha male” and “tough guy” talk and other stupid concepts and they feel welcomed because they don’t know better and because they don’t feel welcomed anywhere except online with these delusional guys like Tate and so on.
We really need to make being moderate a good thing again. But being moderate doesn’t mean being cowards, it means defending what’s right.

There is an idealistic mindset and one based in hard reality. One group shows their preference for idealism at the cost of everything and everyone around them.

The older saved us. I am in my 30s and ashamed of the youth.
Yeah, may not be sexy but how the fuck can you fall for this hipster shit on social media by the AfD?
It MIST be related to algorithms and the fact that people like Musk chose to benefit the AfD.
Also of course we must make sure that Eastern Germany benefits more, in a way everyone feels it.

    22. Ranter619 on

This is normal and has been going on for hundreds of years.

    24. wojtekpolska on

young people being less in favour of immigration, and are less likely to vote for old farts who will die in 10 years.

this sadly makes them vote for extreme parties.

    25. NoRecipe3350 on

Men tend to be more security/crime focused, also more data driven/analytical in their thinking, so common thought process might be ‘this immigrant group is 3 times as likely to commit a certain type of crime so there is something wrong with this group’, whereas many women might think ‘but oh there are good and bad people everywhere’ (both statements are technically true).

it s interesting how SK is ahead 10-15 years in pretty much every single bad trend.

sex polarization in voting will probably continue to rise
