I heard and read very little wailing from European leaders in recent weeks, much less than we used to, and a lot more constructive and concrete suggestions to change things after the initial shock, starting with new fiscal rules on the EU level that leave out defence spending from budget constraints.
There has long been a consensus that Europe needs to spend more on defence. What’s new however is the new axis of evil between Russia, the US and even the likes of North Korea (see UN), the brazen betrayal of Europe by Trump-US. That was shocking, but only further strengthened the resolve for change.

Let’s not get all melodramatic. Europe isn‘t exactly an underdog.
We haven’t even started hybrid warfare-ing back at the Russians yet. I guess they don’t remember all the horrific shit our countries were capable of with only a simple profit motive. Anyway, I expect that a lot of separatists and nationalist groups in Russia are about to come into money and weapons. There will also probably be a massive influx of cheap narcotics, and Iran, the -stans, Libya, Syria etc… are about to discover new and favorable trade conditions with Europe that involve being less friendly with Russia.

OK I agree with the article, but if Europe starts to buy / build it’s own equipment that’s the USA manufacturing F*”ked. Most military manufacturers ( Europe) have been destroyed by USA ideas and demands that pushed their equipment eg 7.62 to 5.56, which has proved to be usless same with other equipment F35 £40k an hr operation cost vs eurofighter £20k per hr. Fighting alone may / probably weaken the USA as overseas markets will dry up. So tears yes but maybe of joy for more jobs more income for Europe

The article says we must negotiate with Putin. You cannot do that with a tyrant. We (Britain) tried to appease Hitler , we thought we had. We hadn’t if course, we were played .
