      There’s a lot of people who are also in need of accommodation and unfortunately there’s not enough to go around. That won’t get better anytime soon

      So clearly landlords and private industry as usual are failing to react in any compassionate or understanding way. Surely it’s up to the government now to take proactive measures to help them. Two young children there for fucks sake.

      Choosing the country you intend to applying for asylum, supports are an important factor to consider.

      In a letter seen by RTÉ News, Dún Laoghaire- Rathdown County Council says it did initially offer to provide accommodation for Haneen and the children together “for a period of time” and for Hazem separately, but Hazem says he absolutely cannot leave his wife alone with the children.

      Sorry but they’re not the only people sleeping in their car. They’re actually lucky they have a car to sleep in. Faced a similar situation myself a few years ago, having to live in my car, what’s maddening here is I got nothing after years of paying into the system. Yet this guy can come over from South Africa and claim asylum because he’s “from” Palestine, sorry but that’s just abuse of the system, that wasn’t him being removed from a harmful situation to add Why they were allowed to carry on with the asylum family reunification process knowing they had no place to go is absolutely absurd.

      There’s a huge gap between the political reception that Irish people have given Ukrainian (white) refugees and Palestinian (not white) refugees.

      The Irish government spent €239 million on accommodation recognition payments for Ukrainian refugees per year. Ukrainians are also entitled to work while in Ireland, and access education. Palestinians can MAYBE get access to direct provision. If that. If not they live on their cars.

      We’ve done what we *should* have done for all refugees with Ukraine, but with Palestinians- people who are *also* being driven out of their homes by an invading power – we are falling short. We are showing our arses with this double standard.
