Turkey is really playing the 4d geopolitical chess these past years.

Soooo, does that mean people here will now want Turkey to remain in NATO or nah?

I think Turkey is best placed to peace keep the buffer zone. It is already working with Russia and has shared economic interest in gas, tourism, nuclear power construction etc and already has experience doing joint patrols with Russian forces on the Northern Syrian border. Even after the collapse of the Assad regime, Turkey played a critical role in ensuring the Rebels avoided Russian installations and positions as they swept to Damascus. The two already work together so there is already a working relationship.

Peacekeeping will come at a cost. Turkey will want further integration into Europe. Turkey won’t accept being a security partner of Europe without being part of it.

Macron has been very exclusionary towards Turkey. He has dreams of recreating French Empire and sees Turkey as an obstacle in dominating both European politics and Mediterranean politics. He is delusional, French should accept that they’re not a superpower anymore and they should cooperate with other powers to secure their interests.

That dude is everywhere trying to stick it to Turkey, and keeps getting Ls in geopolitical play. He will be the one to undermine new EU-Turkey alignment, declare Turkey to be an outside enemy that needs to be contained.

This is very important news. Turkey is one of the few countries that could deliver (a large) portion of the needed soldiers and equipment. Turkey had a neutral stance in the conflict. Russia won’t like seeking a confrontation with Turkey which means the peacekeeping force will have a better chance of being left untouched by Russia.

Turkey has never been an enemy to the West. The closest they got with Russia was during Trump’s first term, when he bullied the hell out of Erdogan, while being a NATO ally but refusing to sell NATO weapons to Turkey, which was then fighting Russia in Syria. Turkey was the first to witness the “trustworthiness” that EU is facing today.

Now all the people saying “turkey Shouldn’t be in NATO” are gonna do a 180 turn lmao.

It’s easy – Erdogan knows that putler would never allow NATO peacekeepers, but it makes Turkey look good.

Same with Turkey not recognizing occupied territories as Russian. Makes Turkey look good, but at the same time Turkey helps Russia to avoid sanctions

    12. Make Turkey Ottoman Empire Again!/s

I wonder if they want to secure Crimea

    13. When USA “left” the alliance, Turkey automatically became the largest army in Nato and the most experienced honestly. People in this sub are very reactionary and ideologically lost, now suddenly Erdoğan is a friend and Turkey is an important ally!
