I used to be an EU skeptic years back, but now I’m a European supranationalist. Get fucked US. Vive l’Europe.

Europe has to wake up. Stop treating USA as a reliable partner.

I know times are tough, but we need a big f***ing arms package sent to Ukraine asap from EU. Everything we can spare. Not just stuff like Taurus and Archer but planes. Now is the time.

Waiting around for the US administration to “broker some deal” is a mirage and it only benefits russia at this point.

It’s clear now the current US administration isn’t going to do anything. They don’t care about democracy, freedom or justice. Only how much they can try and shake down Ukraine for.

Ukraine is a European country and their future also lies with Europe. We should step up all kinds of aid and leave no option off the table.

I think the same thing, I’m afraid that this won’t reach European politicians, that all of us won’t be able to unite, leave the nonsense and our differences aside, support each other and be one, to change… maybe I’m afraid because deep down I know that politically and socially nothing is going to change, I hope I’m wrong.

    9. Each country’s own people bombed while the next in line stay neutral and only give out assistance until they either get attacked or become irrelevant vassals. It’s basically history. We should really change that like … tomorrow…

    10. I’m sorry, but I’m so done with telling us to unite and how to unite, especially on this sub. Everyone knows that, but no one at the top level is doing anything significant to start the process. This is what attention should be paid to.

Exactly, the whole of Europe needs to come together and unite. I’m very much pro Europe and was horrified my country voted for brexit. What we need more than ever is unity.

    16. The time to fucking act was yesterday. If anyone still has any hopes the US would honour Article 5 they are out of their fucking minds. We don’t have a US nuclear umbrella anymore, we don’t have anything from them anymore. It is just us europeans.

I’m from the Netherlands. I don’t usually look kindly to prolific EU spending. Now I do feel the EU needs to spend a fuck load of money to build all necessary strategic enablers. Preferably under one unified command. Now is the time to do this also because German industry is underutilized.

Dmitry Medvedev just commented on X:
“The insolent pig finally got a proper slap down in the Oval Office. And
@realDonaldTrump is right: The Kiev regime is “gambling with WWIII.”

Shocking tonality from an official statesman. Did anyone else notice how they’re all talking like school yard bullies on public accounts now?

Recently I listened to “Ode to Joy” again and felt so touched and proud to be European 🩷

    22. algorab17 on

I have been pro-European for many, many years. However, I am extremely pessimistic about the years to come.

I have always maintained that in the face of threats such as Russia, China, Islamists, and challenges such as climate change, we cannot continue with 27 diplomatic missions, 27 industrial policies, 27 armies and defence policies. It just doesn’t make sense.

If we now add the USA to the list of threats. I don’t see today’s politicians having the courage or the creativity to create the federal Europe we so badly need.

Rearming Germany, Italy and the UK to stand shoulder to shoulder with France will not work if each of them continues in its own corner. We need coordination, and that can only be achieved through political union.

    23. If there’s one thing the United States has done remarkably well, it is instilling a strong sense of national identity in its immigrants—perhaps not always in the first generation, but certainly by the second.

I believe it is time we cultivate a stronger European identity as well. While a significant part of me is Romanian, I also find myself drawn to aspects of French, German, Polish, Italian, Dutch, etc. culture, whether through their traditions, values, or products. To a great extent, we already share common principles and ideals. No nation on Earth has its citizens entirely unified in thought or identity, so we should not expect Europe to become a monolithic entity. However, that does not mean we cannot live, work, and grow together as a more cohesive whole and strive to one day say we’re proud to be European in addition to our national identities.

    24. Mountainenthusiast2 on

Never felt more European after that. We stand together.

    25. Just posted this in another thread and no point typing it out again.

Wow, I have just seen that interview and what a disgusting way to treat the Ukrainian President. I would be in favour of more European independence and less reliance on the U.S.

You can’t be wondering who’s coming in every four years. I feel bad for Zelenskyy and Ukraine, and this shows the United States up.

I’ve always been against Ireland increasing defence spending, but i would be open to it once it’s independent from U.S. influence. Be fair and firm with everybody, but independent.
