If the US leaves NATO, that is a big blocking point lifted for Ukraine to join NATO.
It requires unanimity, but once the US is out, there are very few countries who would be left to oppose: maybe just Hungary actually ? And Orban is one vote away from loosing power anyway.

Fact is, if Russia were to go further now and strike a NATO country – would the US be there? I doubt it very much.

At this point I think it would benefit the EU if USA leaves NATO, they won’t do anything if Russia attacks us anyway. USA leaving will force us to quickly form a new European military alliance, with good chances of UK and Turkey joining as well.
Really, they’re just looking for an excuse, any excuse. NATO, in its original form, is over. The US is now more an ally of Russia than of Europe. Time for Europe to look after itself and build relations with its real friends.

US is threatening to leave NATO said they have been paying the European countries security for years
It is a partial but undeniable truth, by providing the security to Europe
– US has been benefiting from this as during cold war they basically used the whole Europe as a front against USSR , that is right, all the Europeans can die in the American’s eyes
– The Europeans largely halt their own defence program , except a few and choose US weapon systems
– The Europeans as a continent trade in US dollars even we have Euro, which allow US dollar as the global reserve currency (China has been pushing themselves away from this , BRICS is what they are doing)
So if US leaves NATO, we should STOP trading with US dollars, as they are no longer our ally, there is no economical and security benefit from doing business with them,
We start the trade war and drive their inflation up, without EU to back the US dollar, their debt cannot be sustained (China, will quite sure to use this opportunity to devalue the US dollar as it can help with their own debt)
