I already thought this was standard for all policies.
How would this stop anyone driving who isn’t insured???
Sounds like an insurer was caught giving insurance to unlicenced drivers
Isn’t that information on your license, and are you not supposed to supply your license when buying insurance.
I had added mine but if I recall correctly the lookup didn’t work on some sites.
Seems a few niggles to still workout.
Some people don’t declare points, others don’t even have a license. Some companies dont do any checks. Someone crashed into me a few years ago and drove off. I gave the reg the Guards, they said it was registered to an empty building in an industrial estate. They said that was common.
in other countries you just insure the car and anyone can drive it
Never asked. Driving 40 years. Regularly change insurance for cheapest quote. But asking force number is useless unless a: there is encoding to ensure it matches the name on the policy and b: the Insurance company can run a check to see if you have points, convictions or accidents, and c: records provided are current and up to date.
Renewed my insurance last December and was asked for the driver no.
Previous renewals with new insurance companies required me to upload a copy of my driving licence.
I had no issues with either request.
So I take it you must have Irish licence after living there 6 months, you are deemed resident.
