If our American allies are so eager to roll back their security guarantees, including a possible exit from NATO, they should understand that this will push Europe to develop its strategic autonomy, which requires building its own tech giants. Without a 650-million-strong user base(EU+UK+Turkey+Ukraine) and Europe’s purchasing power, American companies would be doomed.

Yes, that’s true, but what are the alternatives?
I guess X (former Twitter) can just be banned for the European network, because it has absolutely no value for the greater good, but how exactly can the EU threaten with anything regarding Apple or YouTube?
Unlike Tesla, which can be easily replaced, Apple became a status symbol long long ago and even if you put tariffs on imports of Apple products, people will just keep paying more to get their products, despite cheaper and better alternatives.
And YouTube has no competition regarding mainstream video media and social network of its type, which is a whole other fruit of problems.
It’s a shame that we don’t have our own tech companies.
Thankfully the recent Mario Draghi report acknowledges that the EU needs to help small businesses more.
I was talking with an american who was sending live. I aksed him in the chat that Europa and the Usa needs to be close for the economy to work out. (it was a pro trump live) and he responded with i dont care. I then asked him if he knew how the economy works and he didnt. I think the porblem is that some people dont know how important Europe and Usa is to eachother. Its a really important topic that dont get much light.

We are the biggest market for many US companies, I’d like to enjoin every single person who reads this to visit r/conservative and to see how they despise Europe and feel super confident about not needing us. Truth is we are a gigantic market and being their client is a cornerstone of America’s world dominance. Without us, they are not much.

I think Europe should partially ban the social media business practice of selling users attention to ad clients. This is awful for the society. Instead users should be the clients and as a result the quality of content should be highest priority- not maximization of attention absorbed.
So, there should be a cap for the share of revenue made with ads. E.g. one third at maximum.

Last week I deleted myself from Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. Never used Twitter. With Google it’s a bit more difficult, but already trying DuckDuckGo for search duties, signed up for Proton mail and hopefully will find some viable replacement for Sheets. I will be canceling Creative Cloud subscription this month, fortunately I fully migrated to Avid MC and Resolve, don’t need that half-baked Adobe scam. The only products I’m not willing to give up are Apple computers. Please, don’t make me use laptops with 2-hour battery life and Windows, I think I would need to find another job then. One that doesn’t involve computers, at all.
A lot of people don’t actually know this. It’s not a well known fact that EU is acc one of the world’s largest consumers for US goods (could be the largest?). USA is really tryna fix a problem that doesn’t exist and as a result just creating new ones for themselves in the long run. They have a fantastic trade relationship going on with the EU but for some reason are tryna sabotage it..
I think people just assume “hey those guys over there don’t sweat out all year 9-5 and so can’t afford most goods”.
US supplies a lot of services to us than we do to them. We are being treated very badly by the americans. We should introduce tariffs on these services.

We need a social media platform like Twitter, Bluesky etc. tied with the EU government. Basically only an EU resident with a valid passport ID should be able to create an account. One account per person. Or something like that. I am not asking for a ban of twitter etc. but an additional taxpayer supported platform which rejects access to foreign entities.
Because I am genuinely worried about foreign A.I. chatbots changing our domestic talking points, just like they are doing it in the US. I know it is already happening in Europe, so we need to act now.

Use Adblock, uBlock and Privacy Badger whenever accessing US websites. We don’t have alternatives at the moment but we don’t have to give them our data or revenue from commercials.

Europe has never had a genuine ability or will to create a pan European alternative to all the social media platforms we use everyday. The curse of linguistic pride being the biggest problem. If someone designed an English language app for Europeans the French would object and develop their own and it would be full of restrictions and would die.
Until we get past this thinking American companies will continue to dominate the market.

If that is true, I am completely out of touch. I know no one who uses X. In my country there is only one hashtag on X that is really active and it is used and followed by politicians and journalists only. They created a nice little bubble for themselves.

MEPs could have their own Mastodon server. Now their profile pages have links to Xitter etc right next to their official EP email address.
