Perché nessuno in Europa risponde direttamente a Trump in quel modo? (Sono molto stanco di essere irrispettoso come europeo)

Perhaps EU is less affected and betrayed than CA? I mean trump literally threatened to annexed CA.

Trudeau is widely regarded as on his way out. He has nothing to lose, and potentially could save himself by “winning” a fight, or at least being seen to fight.

Worst case, he damages relations with the US and leaves his successor with a problem and responsibility for the consequences. The public has a very short memory. There really isn’t much downside for Trudeau personally or his party politically.

    3. Reckless-Savage-6123 on

I do not understand this either. There is not a single European leaderthat has any kind of energy around them. Polands Tusk sometimes tries to do that but it never works. I watched Starmers press conference yesterday and it was the most anemic speech that I’ve heard ever. It’s unbelievable.

Well the Finnish (far) right wing government is pretty silent now, True Finns party was parroting Putin propaganda up until the Ukraine war started and then changed to suck up Trump, but because it’s a political suicide to support Russia in Finland right now they are probably just coming to terms with the (obvious) Trump-Putin connection and are scrambling to think how to move on from here.

I hope they’d just implode or something, they’ve brought nothing but shit to Finland.

What’s the benefit, beyond a cathartic feeling?

Trump won’t care about you anyway. He doesn’t even care about the average American. If anything, not lowering themselves to his juvenile mudslinging is just a sign of someone with a basic grasp of statecraft.

I think because the UK and France suspect the US is ready to ditch nato at the first plausible excuse and they want to leave a door open to repair relationships if Trump decides to start listening to sense. I think it’s too late though.

I’m Canadian and I also have a passport in the EU and am there every year. Europeans generally are more direct.

Canadians are not. But when we are pissed off – we are extremely petty and we hold a grudge like its a ticket to heaven. Thats what you are seeing here.

    8. Icy-Mix-3977 on

Why would he talk directly to your governments? You have traded control to the eu, right? I thought they handled all negotiations on your behalf.

    9. Dull-Sandwich-7128 on

We have a very close relationship with the US, so paradoxically this means we have to fight back immediately because they are a direct existential threat to us. Europe at the moment has some distance, both geographically and politically, and so many EU leaders think they can still smooth things over with Trump and get a win-win scenario where the US supports Ukraine and isn’t angry at the EU.

This is of course a mistake, but most political leaders of the world are still running on a middle ground, appease both sides mentality. Sometimes with the US there is no middle ground, and Canada, historically, has had to deal with that.

There is a book called The Fight for Canada: Four Centuries of Resistance to American Expansionism that explains this well. I don’t want to try posting a link, but it is on archive dot org.

Two completely different situations. Trudeau is responding to a direct attack. There’s literally nothing to lose and the only option is to go on the attack in return. Europe is trying to prevent the situation escalating to a direct attack while also trying to influence the US’ approach to Ukraine, which requires them to keep the line of communication open.

    11. amensentis on

Europe, China, Canada and Mexico should just fully sanction the US like we do with Russia, starting now.

We dont need their shit anyway. The only American things i consume are media and social media, every essential good consumed is produced in Europe anyway.

    12. TwoFacedHoods on

We’re still playing it diplomatically and setting him up to be unequivocally the bad guy. Got to get as much of the general population on board as much as we can.

Fully believe this is Starmer’s and Zelenskyy’s game over Ukraine. Yes Mr Trump we want you to be involved, yes sorry Mr Trump let’s talk again, please Mr Trump, and then when he inevitably refuses (because there is no peace deal because Putin will never have NATO in occupied Ukraine) he’ll look like the villain he is to more people.

It’s annoying as shit but defence spending, increased taxes and food cost is incredibly unpopular, got to make sure you have a big enough bad guy first.

I’m glad this question came up. The EU needs to be more vocal. The world needs to be more vocal. He thinks nothing of treading on everyone’s toes but it seems the global first world are too afraid to speak their mind. Geez on Reddit for sure all us minions are putting word out, but world leaders ? Where are they. They need to say something.

    14. Bob_Aggz on

Just talking to an American guy and European people are disrespectful, fuck us, some guy on YouTube said such and such, all our leaders are liars.

And he seemed like an ok guy.

WTF are the dumb cunts like?

    15. I don’t want a European version of Trump (… again). Have some self-respect and dignity while we take care of things. Escalating the situation is playing right into Russia/U.S.A’s hands.

    16. SimilarProject7457 on

Unrelated, but the blonde woman on the left is kinda hot.

    17. This is looking liek an existential fight for Canada, so… we can’t mince words.

    18. No_Conversation_9325 on

He is on Truth Social, our leaders are addicted to X. I’d not be pissed off about them not responding to Trump directly, but about us, as citizens, being seen as third class. Our leaders report to Musk first

    19. wordswillneverhurtme on

Because there’s no point in being emotional. Europe will respond in a way that’s best for it and its people.

The crumbling US economy is a positive rather than a negative. The world is safer place without american hegemony

    21. Horror-Football-2097 on

The relationship between Canada and the US and Europe and the US is *in no way similar*. There’s no denying that our economies are completely intertwined after at least a century of cooperation and decades of free trade. It’s like if the entire EU decided they were going to slap massive tariffs on Poland on a whim.

We have to go ALL IN on our response because we have no choice. This is not an inconvenience or just offensive. It’s very harmful.

You’re not in that position. If you go all in right now, you have nowhere to go when shit really goes down.

we need goodwill for Ukraine and until their safety is secured, we’re biting our tongues

    23. Fresh-Hedgehog1895 on

Trudeau’s address to Trump was absolutely brilliant. His rhetoric game was 100% on point.

Referring to Trump as just ‘Donald’ and using dumbed-downed words like ‘big’ instead of ‘important’ or ‘impactful’ was an absolute masterstroke of genius.

I have no doubt whatsoever that all of this completely flew over the Orange Turd’s head. It probably flew over most Americans’ heads, to be honest.

Trudeau has resigned as Canada’s PM effective 9th March. The I-don’t-give-a-fuck Trudeau is the best Trudeau yet.

    24. Rodrinessa on

Just remember that disrespect coming from people that can’t afford eggs is worthless.

These people can’t even place themselves on the map. I say fuckem. And eventually Americans will realize they depend more on the rest of the world than the rest of the world depends on them

    25. Sufficient_Toe5132 on

Dirtbag Donnie Trump, Con-Man-in-Chief. There’s a title for ‘im.

    26. They all want something from the US. If I want you to fly halfway around the world and take care of the violent drunk in apartment 22b for me I’m going to give you a lot of slack in terms of what you say/do.

    27. Fit-Cable1547 on

If/when the Donald does the same thing or worse to the EU, I’m sure the speeches from the various European leaders will get more direct. Until that happens everyone is basically forced to treat him with kids gloves (hello UK PM) and try not to bring attention to themselves in fear they’ll get targeted next. Ridiculous times.

    28. Veraenderer on

Because dealing with Putler becomes much easier if the Trumpeltier either supports us or does not support russia.

    29. Scarlet004 on

Trudeau is a great leader in times of crisis. He made some bad domestic decisions that made him unpopular at home. He’s only got weeks left in power, he recently had to step down. But we’re lucky to have him for the start of this. He was the same with Trump last time. Politely but firmly takes none of Donald’s shit.

    30. aNauticalDisaster on

This is Trudeau’s last week on the job. That’s why.
