About bloody time!! So many injustices against (primarily) women in regards financial security. My MIL cared for her in-laws and an uncle in-law until they all passed away, having left work in 1980 herself to rear four children in a very rural area. She was a carer for years, and not one stamp went towards a contributory pension for her. Fuckin scandalous. I know that law has also changed but it will impact people for another few years.

>who are in an intimate and committed relationship for two years where there is a child or children of the relationship, or five years otherwise.
Makes sense, I do have to ask, why not get married?

Considering that the State assesses cohabiting couples as a unit for social assistance even when unmarried, this is long overdue.
I’m surprised that disparity in the law was never challenged in court because it’s a ridiculous double standard.
