Trump’s foreign policy is so disastrous that the Italians are now pro EU spending

      /j bc people might misunderstand

    2. No_Conversation_9325 on

I wonder about those who disagree… what’s their plan?

    3. Bitter_Particular_75 on

That’s the population. The government, though, is a completely different matter as they are a Trump/Putin asset and will do everything in their power to slow down / stop this process.

    4. Sium4443 on

LA7 is the biggest (with the lowest number being on 7) left leaning TV channel, if the polls are made between their audience is normal to have results like this as most of the Italian left is europeist except M5S whose voters are isolated into “il fatto quotidiano” journal

    5. Germany and France will have an epic battle to see who runs this army and which country will subjugate Europe

    6. Automatic_Green3994 on

Oh wow, brilliant move. So now all the keyboard commandos from Reddit are gonna heroically sign up for the army and personally teach everyone how to kick Putin’s ass, right? Can’t wait to see that.

    7. Bug_Parking on

Happy to have an EU army there.

Just not happy contribute anything at all.

    8. Ginger_Wrath on

Would they still agree if that includes Italian troops being used as peacekeepers in a Ukrainian peacekeeping plan?

    9. HyperShinchan on

What should be noticed is that supporting an European army doesn’t automatically translate into supporting much higher military expenditure, especially if it means cutting welfare or raising the already high taxation rates….

    10. Ornery_Error2195 on

Italian here, agree 100% and usa out with their bases in Eu. Fuck them

    11. drswizzel on

what kind of army are we talking about?

are we talking about a unified army under 1 leader and is then controlled by a select few

or are we talking about individual army’s lead by there own country but in dire need put under a unified command (when a country get invaded)

if its the first choice that is NEVER gonna happen.

      2nd option is a possibility

For those wondering about negative opinions: lega – currently in coalition with fratelli d’Italia and forza Italia –  and some other parties are not for European integration. I invite looking for example at borghi’s (lega politician) or salvini’s Twitter:

       https://xcancel.com/borghi_claudio

In a tweet of a few days ago, he says: L’esercito UE avrebbe la canna del fucile non certo puntata contro gli USA o la Russia ma contro la nostra testa. Non lo consentiremo mai

Roguhly translated to: an eu army would have the guns pointed not at USA or Russia, but against us (us as in italians/italy, not usa). We will never allow this

So, even if it doesn’t make sense for an army composed of Italians as well to be against italy’s especially (for whatever reason they could be against italy’s, whatever it mean), there are politicians saying that. M5s and some left parties also oppose increasing spending in defense

This is just the context and it doesn’t reflect my views, Idk why I’m being downvoted when I am pro European army and whatever

    13. Roky1989 on

There should be some drive to unite the armies of the countries that want to do that. Or at least make a new european structure

    14. Talulah-Schmooly on

Interesting by the way that “the moron” consistently seems to score somewhere between 30 and 40%>

    15. Are there links to all countries or was this done only in italy

    16. StrokeOfGrimdark on

Full federalization and a common EU army isn’t the way. We need national armies (thémata) but with greater integration and cooperation. There are ways to land in the middle.

That’s not to say an EU army couldn’t exist on top of national armies, we could have both.

    17. hime-633 on

I cannot explain how angry I am that so many idiot American voters have put us in this position.

Yes, now we need fucking guns.

All that money that could have gone to better things, to lovely things, to nature, to education, to welfare, to enhancing all the good in our lives.

Now we must buy guns – guns! – because a chronically underfunded and fragmented education system in the richest country in the world has produced a critical mass of morons.

Fucks sake. Desperately looking at trees and birds and flowers and focusing on how everything is a cycle and sometimes you just have to wait for the shit bits to pass.

    18. Pk_Devill_2 on

I did disagree a couple of years back. I agree with a European army atm

    19. Apprehensive-Step-70 on

Pretty ironic considering only 13% would be willing to enlist

    20. BudSpencerCA on

I’m saying this for a decade. We need a European 🪖

    21. [deleted] on

This has been one of the biggest embarrassments for our continent. The fact that we haven’t already done this just shows how stupid and divided we can be

    22. Apprehensive_Home963 on

Why not actually finally commit to NATO though? If Europeans can’t even do that then what hope is there for a EU army. Soz for being negative but to me it’s just more big talk and empty promises

    23. Of course we would love an European Army. Worst case scenario, we can just switch side at the last moment, worked just fine last two times!

    24. Europeans want an army, it’s the politicians that don’t

    25. PrestigiousTea5076 on

I would heavily advise to not trust the most random polls

    26. Sylassian on

Agree. It’s not perfect but it’s better than 30 tiny armies.

    27. Its a stupid idea because it assumes that every country will stay alligned to the EU even when its against their interests.

Germany is the strongest case of this. The only counter Europe has against China and the USA is to cooperate with Russia in order to keep its industry cheap and viable.

    28. readycheck1 on

How can I vote? Will these referenduns happen in other countries?

    29. Inside_Shoulder2698 on

As a german I strongly support it too. I just wish we still had the UK at our side. They would be invaluable in leading roles.

    30. gggooooddd on

I mean good for them and I support it as well in the long run. But let’s be realistic. Russian threat is imminent, the American regime just betrayed us for good, and at best they’re always going to be a single election away from betraying us again from now on. We need massive boosts in our own military-industrial capabilities, and we don’t have much time to argue about, for an example, whether we’ll use English as our newly established armed forces’ command language or some shit like that. In addition to all of those hurdles, some cunt like Orban would block the idea within the EU framework. So in the meanwhile, each of our countries should start with the organizations that we already have and do it three years ago.

    31. Absolutely but we also need an elected president who is its head and the parliament that controls it.

    32. Lol. European Union cannot build an army. Diplomatic negotiations to build an army would take at least 50 years and no decision would be reached. 😂😂😂

England and France should not have fought against countries that were Russia’s rivals in World War I and should not have upset the balance of power in Europe with onerous treaties. Now Europeans have to put up with Russia’s bullying.
