      PRÉCIS:
#Macron Signals Nuclear Shield for Europe as US Rethinks Ukraine Aid

Emmanuel Macron has opened the door to extending France’s nuclear umbrella to European allies, warning that the continent must prepare for a future in which the United States may not stand by its side. Speaking ahead of an extraordinary European summit in Brussels, the French president argued that Europe must take its security more seriously, particularly as US support for Ukraine wavers. He pointed to France’s military strength and nuclear capability as key assets that could offer a broader deterrent across the continent.

Macron’s remarks come as Washington reconsiders its military aid to Ukraine, following a tense meeting between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy that led to an abrupt suspension of intelligence-sharing. European leaders, alarmed by the shift in US policy, are scrambling to reinforce their commitments to Kyiv while also forging a long-term strategy for European defence. Britain and France, in coordination with Ukraine, are reportedly finalising a peace plan to present to the US. The proposal, which could be completed within days, is expected to include an initial ceasefire covering air and sea attacks, though not ground combat, alongside broader security guarantees.

Germany’s likely next chancellor, Friedrich Merz, has also waded into the debate, pushing for a major loosening of fiscal rules to allow for a surge in defence spending. His proposal to lift Germany’s strict debt ceiling has drawn criticism but is seen by some as necessary in light of escalating security threats. Meanwhile, European defence firms are watching developments closely, hoping that the continent’s leaders will finally prioritise domestic arms production after years of relying on US military hardware.

As Zelenskyy prepares to attend the Brussels summit, diplomatic efforts are moving at pace, with European leaders determined to show that they will not abandon Ukraine. Macron, in a stark warning, reminded his nation that Russia remains a very real threat, not just to Ukraine but to all of Europe. With Trump threatening new trade tariffs on the EU and stepping back from previous commitments, Macron’s vision of a self-reliant Europe is taking on new urgency. The continent stands at a crossroads, forced to decide how far it is willing to go in shaping its security future.

Ready for? I thought the grifter in chief made it clear, the US is not at Europe’s side.

A reminder that this was what Macron said about the US China relation:

      >He said “the great risk” Europe faces is that **it “gets caught up in crises that are not ours,** which prevents it from building its strategic autonomy,” while flying from Beijing to Guangzhou, in southern China, aboard COTAM Unité, France’s Air Force One.

      >**Xi Jinping and the Chinese Communist Party have enthusiastically endorsed Macron’s concept of strategic autonomy** and Chinese officials constantly refer to it in their dealings with European countries. Party leaders and theorists in Beijing are convinced the West is in decline and China is on the ascendant and that weakening the transatlantic relationship will help accelerate this trend.

Can any European explain to me why its OK for Europe to take the isolationist stance with China-Taiwan issue but get upset when America might try to do the same with the Ukraine-Russia issue?

Personally I think we both should have each other back on both issues right? If this war is a matter of protecting democracy, Europe shouldn’t have a problem backing the US if China invades Taiwan right?

Spoiler: They should have always been able to stand on their own.

Europe needs short term solutions. Ukraine cannot wait for all this talk to deliver a successful European army dream, which may never come to life.

Good endeavor, but France cannot provide the hard power. Nuclear deterrence does not require a huge arsenal, they can deliver on that. Other aspects of military? They are not in a position to project power all throughout Europe against Russia.

You need an alternative approach. Push is at the shove, coming very hard. A second fallout with Trump, and he is very eager, will put Ukraine in a desperate situation and Russia will only be emboldened.

Trump is sadly making all the efforts to equal the U.S. with himself. So it is mostly about him and the MAGA cronies and gazzillionaires using them for profit.

But it is clear that they are not interested in Partnerships witg stable western democracies but more or less authoritarian governments like Russia, China, Iran, Israel, Hungary etc

      Yep.

Start spending on bullets, and start cutting services. It’s gonna be a looooong 10 years for you.

Both the US and Europe should have the capabilities to be strategically independent.

What kind of world are we entering? There are 3 powerful nations, and the only one of them that is a democracy seems to be tumbling into something quasi-fascist.

None of the liberal democracies in the world are able to defend themselves against their neighbours. Taiwan is at the mercy of China, the Baltics to Russia, and now fucking Canada to the US. Even India can’t stand up to China.

Do we europeans even have the economies to rearm? We’ve stagnated. We find ourselves in this era where every relevant company is an American or Chinese one. I worry so much.

They plan was Europe would get there by 1950. Better late than never I guess. Europe is 4 generations removed from independence, I know it seems scary but you’ll be fine.

It wasn’t so long ago that France was on the brink of a hard right wing government. Some leanings that way in Germany & Austria also. It’s fragile, we could put a pile of money & effort ramping up the European military only for it to become fragmented & those fragments better armed. Ukraine is really exposed without US intelligence &tech. If the US moves on Canada &/or Greenland in particular, Europe could be defending two fronts. I worry that the deal behind all this is that Israel will be left to its own devices in the middle east. To keep Russia sweet in that scenario, they get Ukraine with options on Europe. US expands into Greenland & Canada. Just my musings… Anxious musings…

I really am sorry that it has arrived at this point. I just hope we can all survive him. Europe needs to dramatically build up its defense capabilities and nuclear deterrence, especially for Poland.

I fucking hate Trump so much. I hope he has a heart attack. I hope all the spineless republicans rot in hell. Fuck them for destroying our relationship with Europe. Fuck them to hell

“Not at our side,” means no longer willing to write blank checks with zero contingencies. And yes, Americans agree with Mr. Macon. The EU should form your own defense alliance, build you own weapons industry, put boots on the ground in Ukraine. There is nothing we can see that is wrong with that. We welcome Europe stepping up to take some of the financial responsibility off the American Taxpayer.

And I’m not talking sarcastically. We truly will appreciate a great financial and leadership role by Europe in the entire world. I’m not sure how the European people will feel when 100’s of billions of Euros start flowing out of their social programs and into defense systems, but we will see. Europeans seem to be pretty optimistic about it at the moment.

We are rooting for you! We pray it works out well. God Bless Europe!

Europe is openly admitting that they have been at war with Russia this entire time and using Ukrainian land and lives as a proxy and USA money. Maybe if they were using their own money and throwing their own lives at the war they would be ready to sue for peace too.
