Good, we will be better for our cutting of ties with the U.S. and we can easily outfox that eejit in the White House. Tariffs only wind up hurting ordinary Americans in the long run and most people can see that.
Maybe some of the soft IT hands can build a few houses
What items will get more expensive for us if the USA bring in tarrifs
“scenario planning”
Oh right……
Talk to the Healy Rae’s there. They know what to do.
Canada cut off sales Jack Daniels and the state of Kentucky is already begging for mercy after a single day. The same state that voted in Trump twice. Canada has also ripped up any public contracts with American companies. Maybe the CEO of Boeing will have an opinion on all the business Ryanair are giving them.
I’d rather be friends with the Americans but if they start intimidating then we need to respond in kind. The EU needs to stand up to bullies just like the Canadians did.
I wonder will be announce then before the visit on the 12th? Awks if he does!
Trump is a cunt. Destabilised the whole planet because he’s a dipshit.
What’s the plan, more ferries out of the country. Christ y Moore running another Self Aid. I’m sure it’s a great plan alright.
ITs impossible to purchase any products from the USA as it is with the EU tariffs and Irish customs on imports. Completely cost prohibitive.
How about we offer him a nice plot of land in Monaghan or Donegal, let him build a new hotel and maybe he’ll fuck off for 4 years.
I don’t have much hope for this ‘scenario planning’.
FF and FG had 8+ years of warning that the specific form of globalisation which historically benefited the Irish economy, was coming to an end – and they did nothing to make our economy more resilient to any shocks.
They should have spent the past 8 years working on a transformative industrial policy which focuses on strengthening the domestic economy and investing in infrastructure and worker rights to improve productivity – using our national wealth and taxation to move our economy towards being more like Denmark’s economy.
Instead, they wasted it on tax cuts, one off cash payments, and a nonsense ‘rainy day fund’.
It’s not too late for them to change course, but I don’t see the will to change at all in anyone in FF or FG.
The most effective retaliation tariffs would be those that affect trump and his allies directly. Amazon, Tesla, X, Starlink, Facebook, Google, apple and Trump hotels. In the interest of preventing monopolies and promoting home European interests/security these are areas we should be developing ourselves.
While we’re at tarrifs why not block their military from using shannon.
They get the benefits of being allies if they treat us as one.
We should build thousands of wind turbines right outside his silly golf course if he tries anything.
It’s a catch 22 situation for Ireland. US companies account for the majority of the corporation tax, and provide high paying jobs here. Boycotting American goods could backfire.
Good thing we’re bringing in austerity to fund billions in arms spending and military aid. Maybe the austerity will work better this time around
