That would face some resistance and would be practically impossible task… each of 27 countries has bilateral relations, not to mention diplomatic relations.

As much I think Volt is cool and I am a supporter of EU federalization, this is too much to do at once. Baby steps. Rome wasn’t built in a day

European Parliament has already approved treaty reform. The next step is a Council convention.

FYI, this is a **very minor** political party within EU parliament (0.7%). Can be safely disregarded.

Volt’s proposal to remove Hungary’s voting rights through an article 7 procedure is also gaining momentum. Now is the time.

This is a stupid idea. The EU needs to become significantly more democratic before this would make any sense. Right now, with the EU essentially being a retirement home for incompetent and unpopular members of the respective countries’ political elites, this would be incredibly unpopular.

The best time to propose these things is now during times when the EU needs to act as a singular entity but this is an extremely hard sell.

Nobody is gonna give up their sovereignty so Kaja Kallas can feel like the Queen of Egypt, even excluding the fact that her diplomatic skills are detrimental to the Union as a whole. Focus on economic welfare of EU citizens and you will see how it will guide the rest of your politics, youre coming at everything from this neolib angle and things tend to clash.

Sometimes this sub gives me an impression that Volt Europa has more than 5 MEPs (out of 730).

Thanks for the reminder why I vote for Volt. Yes, all of this is what needs to be done.

A bit too much, but getting rid of Orban would fix many of the deadlocks on deciding anything, so that should be the main prio imho.

federalization should be an effect of europe speaking same voice, not means to achieve it or enforce it. were nowhere near it just yet.
tho trump and putin did us solid one there, never seen so many nations being so pissed before

It would conflict with the constitution of most sovereign European countries.

To do that all 27 countries need to have trust in the EU that their interests are protected. What trust is there when EU members greenlight Eirofighter sale to a country that is occupying an EU member and is openly hostile to an other?

That’s a rather stupid idea. It will never be accepted by the majority of Europeans.

Federalization means the end of sovereignty for individual nations, right? So this is just a EU wide USSR (EUSSR?) but with no communists?

Giving up foreign ministry to the EU? Hell fucking no.

This shit is why Volt will never go far. We are going through difficult times where people need to unite behind common goals and they want to remove/delegate the right of nations to define their foreign policies, ensuring contrarian reactions to European collaboration. There should be a limit to how out of touch they can be with regular people.
An ever closer union has way better outlets to focus on first. Let’s actually do effin’ joint military programs before talking about an European Army.
Mountain-Software473 on
Not going to happen as no nation is going to willingly give up their sovereignty.

So Trump’s administration could ignore the entire EU as he’s been doing with Kallas? And far-right got another argument? We can do better than that.

Although it could be argued it’s just semantics, they need to revise the use of Army. From day one it was always referred to as the or a European Defence Force.

Volt is such a non-serious fringe party, that we should ignore these pr attempts. It’s basically a group of uni students starting a party doing not very much exept make noise every once and a while.

Where can I vote for this? I especially like the part of using the frozen Russian assets to help Ukraine. I don’t understand why we haven’t done it yet. What concerns me the frozen assets are Ukrainian and not even a fraction of what Russia should pay to cover the damage. Russia is accountable for millions of deads and many human rights violations. There is no money in the world to cover this.
Also I believe the EU would benefit from a joint army (including a cyber security unit!) and add please a joint tax system! We would fight fiscal paradises and private tax deals that are already damaging the European economy. We need a holistic view on this.
I don’t like all that we will use money on an army when we could use it in better things, like ex.: free education, basic income and fighting poverty, free healthcare systems, fighting climate change… The list is huge however our dreams can only prevail in a free Europe and we need to protect ourselves.

Very challenging. I read a theory of a tiered EU system. You could form a coalition of the willing within those 27 states to form a federal eu which would federalise and combine like this proposal.
You could bypass the fico’s and orban’s that way.
Tier two would be the eu in current form and a third tier could be added for prospective countries like Georgia Ukraine etc.

Good luck telling Poland (or any Eastern European country, for that matter) to give up its sovereignty. The answer will be a loud “Fuck the right off!”.
They already know what that’s like because they’ve been there.
