By Shane Croucher – Breaking News Editor:

The Kremlin called French President Emmanuel Macron’s Wednesday evening speech “extremely confrontational,” and Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the comments about nuclear weapons were a threat, Russian state media reported.

“The speech is really extremely confrontational,” Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin, told journalists in a briefing, reported RIA, a Russian state-run news agency.

Lavrov also responded to Macron at a press briefing. “Of course, this is a threat to Russia,” the foreign minister said.

How could the extension of the French nuclear umbrella be a threat to Russia? It would only affect them if they were to invade a European country protected by it. Russia would never do that, right? Right?

    3. Blue_Boy_Ahoi on

Now all of a sudden it’s confrontational to talk about nuclear deterence. But discussions in Russia to nuke half of the EU are just another day of normal politics…? 🤡

Wasn’t Putin the one constantly threatening Europe that he will use nukes if they keep supplying Ukraine with money and weapons? That wasn’t confrontational? Or wasn’t it confrontational to, you know, start a god damn war?!

    6. Any_Hyena_5257 on

The same Russia that has been threatening to nuke Europe, London etc off the map. Sure thing, you can bet the Katsaps at Ukrainerussiareport are going crazy about that.

Russia threatens to nuke the UK on a monthly basis, yet they call France’s desire to bring more countries under their nuclear defence umbrella confrontational?

      Fuck off.

    8. AlternativeAble303 on

Hey France, just give all of your Nukes to Russia, and they will promise not to attack Europe…

    9. A-Lewd-Khajiit on

They can take an irradiated baguette and shove it down their throats, remind me again which country threatened nukes?

    10. GloomySource410 on

Let them say what they want , soon we will be super power and there is nothing that they can do

French peacefully protecting allies are “extremely confrontational” according to a nation of actual mass murderers and war criminals.

    12. Good, be threatened. We need to once again start treating Russia as an enemy and make it clear that if they try to invade Europe or NATO countries they will be nuked. It is the only thing these assholes respond to. Threats, violence and strength.

*”she shouldn’t have dressed that way and she was extremely confrontational. Very disrespectful too, didn’t say thank you even once”*

    14. And that’s coming from a country that make nuclear threats on a weekly basis.

    15. monte_krismo on

Yeah, sure, that’s extremely confrontational. But when leading russian propagandists threaten that they will wipe Warsaw, London and Berlin out with nukes that’s talk of peace and friendliness.

    16. Wombatsarecute on

If Russia says they have no intentions to attack other European countries besides Ukraine, it probably means they absolutely do have intentions to do it.

    17. Ok_Helicopter5499 on

I mean correct. When you invade a country, you’re going to get confronted by their allies. Duh.

    18. PotentialMeringue493 on

You know what else is confrontational? Genociding Ukrainians

    19. Ice_Tower6811 on

So they can’t invade any EU member with impunity anymore? What an unacceptable threat to Russian sovereignty.

      *”extremely confrontational”*

Yeah, that’s the point. It’s the only thing Putin “gets”, we already tried talking. Thank you France!

    21. Optimal_Mousse140 on

How would Russia classify its own actions then? I think the french are being extremely moderate given the current situation.

    22. OkSeason6445 on

France: if my buddies get attacked I’ve got their back.

Russia: Bro, why are you always so aggressive?

    23. _-Burninat0r-_ on

Didn’t Russia threaten nukes like 34 times the past years

    24. alexvith on

They literally have television shows where they debate what European capitals to strike with a nuke, and still have the nerve to call Macron confrontational. It’s a level of hypocrisy hard to match.

    25. Uhm. .. I think that is the point of French nuclear doctrine. You won’t have time to fuck around and find out. 😅

    26. Eland51298 on

Just a moment, so when Putin reminds everyone every five minutes that they have nuclear weapons, that’s all fine, but when France does it, suddenly it’s “extremely confrontational”? What a joke!

    27. RugbyEdd on

Oh I’m sorry, the country that is constantly threatening to nuke anyone that looks at it funny has a problem with someone else saying they will use their nukes to protect their allies’ sovereignty? Well, if it isn’t the pot calling the kettle black.

    28. You know what’s “extremely confrontational”? Invading another sovereign nation.

    29. Hahah, the guy showing visualizations and simulated renderings of nuking Europe on TV several times considers this confrontational. rUSsian logic in a nutshell.

    30. KarAccidentTowns on

Pretty sick of Russia pretending like they didn’t violently invade Ukraine. Who the fuck are they to complain about confrontation.
