Great news.
Watch as the sadly significant number of cynics, begrudgers and me-Fein people in this country complain.
Bus connects has been a great success.
But does it destroy communities? I was promised destroy communities
>Up to the end of 2024, passenger numbers in areas where the new network has been implemented have increased by 48%.
>In contrast, the rest of the network has seen an increase in passengers of only 8%.
>Additionally, there was a 8.5% improvement in punctuality in the redesigned network compared with just a 2.3% improvement on non-BusConnects routes.
Who knew that surveying people for the areas of need, redesigning routes and frequencies to match, and providing more services would actually deliver a better service that far more people use?
Crazy talk.
Meanwhile Bus Connects Galway is now delayed until 2027 without any real reason being provided!
Great the its working for Dublin, hopefully that helps give it a push every where else too
I’m glad it’s been a success in general. More 24hr routes is great to see. My specific commute has increased in duration because of the changes and it’s made it generally more frustrating to go in the direction of UCD in the mornings, but maybe that will be addressed in the future.
I’m so glad we rewarded the Greens appropriately for this excellent measure.
They destroyed my commute to the office from North Wicklow. Easily added 30minutes onto an 1hr 15min commute. Hate them for it. The 84X was perfect.
Now I am driving into the office…
Did a miss a mention of journey duration? Did it go up or down?
I’d like to see actually detailed figures backing this up instead of the Journal just republishing PR pieces as usual
The southside replacement of the 46a/145/155 withe E1/E2 has been an utter clusterfuck in terms of punctuality and reliability.
The bus service is worse now than it was 20 years ago. People I know who haven’t driven in over ten years are considering getting cars because it’s just unusable for work, or anything else where reliability is a factor.
“A new ticketing system to allow contactless payment isn’t going to ready for around another three years.”
About a decade late already, whats a few more years of slow onboarding & hold ups
By the time this is finished in 2030 self-driving Vehicles will have completely changed the landscape and make it virtually redundant.
The new bus service between bray and the city isn’t popular judging by the complaints I’ve read. Particularly kids waiting for multiple canceled busses and not been able to get to school.
“Everybody loves RTE,” says RTE
It’s a net good overall, I mean I can hardly complain about being near a 24/7 spine, but unfortunately it’s also ended up being a quite a downgrade in other situations. For example if you lived in Greystones and wanted to go somewhere on the Luas Line you could have gotten an 84 directly to Brides Glen. This now requires two buses and it won’t bring you directly to the stop.
I love busconnects. My routes make more sense and are more frequent than the ones they replaced. Also, I can get home from town for €2 after the pubs close.
