it was the deplorable Molotov Ribbentrop Pact. The most ridiculous part was during the Nuremberg trials when it officially came to light (everyone knew about it) but the Soviets as usual denied the evidence. Molotov still served as foreign minister for several years and all the diplomats in the world made fun of him saying (as Molotov tells us about the pact you made with the Germans) The Katyn tragedy must not be forgotten because this is still the modus operandi of Putin’s Russia.
It is what Russians do – they lie and blame the victim. It has been their MO for hundreds of years.
It’s what they’ve done in Ukraine, must protect them from life and freedom, blame “Nazis”.
Let’s also not forget the order by Stalin to use forged German uniforms to perform atrocities in Belarus at the same time, notably in Khatyn while taking pictures of their own crimes while wearing them. With the pictures showing them wearing German-looking uniforms that are not in compliance with their uniform standards.

My grandfather (father’s step father) was a Polish PoW in Siberia before joining the 2nd Polish Corps. He weighed less than 70lbs when he enlisted! He told me about how the Russians basically starved them, on top of them dying from typhoid etc. Terrible conditions.
People shouldn’t be surprised by their disregard for human life.
