The Russians have always been well aware that NATO is a defensive alliance and have never wanted to attack them. All countries join NATO voluntarily, they are not invaded. The Russians also know that NATO is much stronger than they are.
The Russians only have one problem with NATO, if a country joins it means one less country for them to invade in the future.
Wonder why every country that experienced russian friendship first-hand desperately wanted to join NATO. Guess we’ll never know
Tale as old as time. Don’t forget that they’ll also try to Russify all of their neighbors if they do conquer them. They’ve been doing that since the 19th century and this is how they currently justify their current irredentism.

Don’t forget Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Qazaqstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Chechnya, Circassia, Dagestan, Crimea, Kazan khaganate, Astrakhan and all the peoples that never had their own state some of which are almost fully extinct by now.
And sadly, a significant number of people still feel nostalgic for the communist era. Besides those who lived through those times, there are also young people who praise it—mainly due to Russian propaganda and a lack of historical knowledge.

Thre are many reasons Finns don’t like Russia such as the [long reason](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finland_under_Swedish_rule#Long_Wrath), the [great reason](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Wrath), the [winter reason](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winter_War) and the [continuation reason](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Continuation_War).
Whilst Russia is worse, we can’t forget our exploitation of poor countries for resources. We have invaded a lot of countries to get to where we are now, and we really shouldn’t forget that. Just thought I’d point out as a lot of people are acting as if we have clean hands

I struggle to understand why is Putin still set in the old ideology of conquering and expanding their territories (restoring the old USSR and then some)?
Russia is already the largest country by landmass. Why be hellbent in expanding it more by opression and threatening world peace?
