      It’s shocking how the Trump administration seems to be pushing the limits with its allies. I hope the EU will finally accept Turkey, given the way the U.S. is acting. Turkey’s accession to the European Union is now more critical than ever for the safety of the entire European continent.

      Contrary to what most commenters are assuming (without reading the article) they aren’t shutting down their embassies and thus practically ending official diplomatic relations, they are closing smaller subsidiary consulates that operate as satellites to the embassies to provide consular services like visa applications etc. It’s another silly Musk cost saving measure.

      Diplomats are annoying. They have values, are intelligent, can call the bluff out of the fat fuck’s sorry excuse for a foreign policy, and know how lethal for world security and human advancement Putin’s mafia, kleptocratic regime is.

      So, better cut their jobs, humiliate them, threaten them so that they have to quit, and be replaced by sycophants who will do nothing but acquiesce to their master’s voice. As they should. As they do in despotic states.

      If they elect a new president every four years and that person spends all their time upending the previous administration’s policies, how can any country develop a lasting trust-based diplomatic or economic relationship with them?

      If this was a company that changed CEO every four years and undid all their product lines and contracts no one would do business with them.

      US has one most important military based in Turkey, İncirlik. I wonder if they will withdraw from there. If so this would be a huge shift.

      To try to figure out what he’s doing and why is pointless if one doesnt have the full insight. There are four main alternatives that all seems resonable and one the four is that he’s just insane. Could be a mixture between some of the four alternatives and it’s only very human to try to predict. It’s useless however and all will go with their own narratives to try to make sense of this. But it’s no point to try. We do not have the full insight of this. Problably only a handfull of people have that.

      I had read from politico and other sources that the US is indeed considering shutting down missions in a set of countries including Italy, Germany, and France. This is the first time I’m reading about a mission getting shut down in Turkey. The article mentions a “branch” in Gaziantep. Gaziantep doesn’t have a US consulate. Maybe it’s an extension office? It sounds kinda small to be alarming.

      I’m noticing a pattern with Trump’s decisions. If the country’s government is far right and aligned with Trump, then they get left alone or maybe even some benefits down the line. If the country is too democratic and doesn’t kiss Trump’s ass, then his USA doesn’t want anything to do with it and here’s some tariffs as a bonus.
