About time Europe took care of itself. The freeloading went on for too long

      It is sad.

It also seems like the only realistic option at the moment. Until a Colonel in Russia steps up to the task at hand.

What’s the message? The EU is eating or needs to eat bullets?

jipp and only because other countries cannot chill and be friends with their neighbours

    5. While I do agree we need to take all the defense matters in our own hands (and we should have done it a long time ago), WAR PROPAGANDA POSTERS SHOULD NEVER RETURN TO EUROPE. We’re going in a dangerous direction with them.

EU should be as strong as it’s possible to Defend itself. Otherwise it will dissapear from the map.

So trump wants peace and europe wants to carry on? Just give them the fucking minerals deal.

Need to actually back it up one day though. You can spam all the funny political cartoons and generic politician speeches all you want, you’ve had three years to rearm and only Poland bothered.

I just hope we don’t lose our welfare and social safety nets over rearmament.

Will the EU continue to let Ireland be a place companies go to avoid paying EU taxes while Ireland itself provides no military support to the EU?

I mean, it is quite a con isn’t it?

Avoid paying EU taxes, screwing everyone else over, then if the EU is attacked say “we are a neutral country” and don’t help?

Ireland doesn’t even have an airforce (a couple of WW2 propeller fighters) so the UK has to guard the airspace from Russian nuclear bombers. So they actually require help to even defend themselves!

Ireland recently gave a couple of comms trucks to Ukraine which is a step in the right direction.

Arms are the most useless and unproductive thing a government can invest in. That is until you need them, then everything else you spent the money on is just not going to deter aggression.

The lessons from our history is stick with democracy, stick together and its better to be over armed in collective security than under defended in isolated insecurity.

this really sucks, europe rearming isnt a silver lining, its survival neccesity.

before that usa kept russia and china in check.

lets be honest, us assistance was the single greatest factor ukraine manage to defend against russia. im not saying other factors like zelensky or eu aid was insignificant, but us aid alone moved the needle the most.

now it takes orders from putin.

even if democrats eventually take power again, all thats left is a greatly weakened, completely unreliable country everyone knows not to depend on.

europe could rearm into military powerhouses, but russia is already attacking with weaponised disinformation and espionage, the very same weapons that destroyed america.

Afd, reform, le pen, all sitting at an uncomfortable 20+%, if any of them get elected, the remainder of NATO is cracked open. along with usa and russia, even a rearmed europe will have a tough time defending itself in a war.

and lets not forget about taiwan, it will be sold to china at whatever price trump can squeeze out of the ccp, and europe certainly doesnt have the power to stop them.

the world is a much more dangerous place now, all thanks to a few evil fuckers.

Interesting article! What are your thoughts on Burton’s perspective about the geopolitical shifts in Europe?
