Meat and dairy products are superb quality compared to any country I’ve been to. We need to keep these industries alive in Ireland regardless of certain people’s agendas

The prices are fine but the quality ~ you have to know where to buy basics like tomatoes, fruits etc. otherwise you end of with a bunch of flavourless stuff (Tesco is notorious in selling shit quality veggies for example, Lidl is usually a tad bit better).

When I was in Ireland, I found the prices of non-processed/prepared foods was excellent. Seems like that’s how you shop as well.
In the United States, I feel that this is inverted.

Where are you from?
Ireland’s supermarket environment is very competitive despite what people might say.
The downside is offers which create waste while being at the expense of the suppliers.
Farmers, horticulture growers get a bad deal from the food processor giants in cahoots with the big chains.

Agree. I’m Canadian, came here five years ago. In that time, some food prices have doubled in Canada. They’re up here too, but not nearly the same level. And it’s so much more processed and full of sugar. Not quite as bad as America, but not nearly as good as here in Ireland. You can do a lot better here both price and quality.

I was hoke at Xmas and I too was impressed with the quality to price ratio… Pretty decent to be fair if you cook from scratch and the meat/dairy is the highest quality

That’s actually barely even more expensive than here in the north now, although food inflation was higher and lasted for longer in the UK.
The price is almost half, and the quality double compared to here. And inflation is running riot.

I’ve come to really appreciate our food in Ireland. I moved to the UAE last year and sweet Jesus the price and quality is so terrible. Everything is so processed and Americanised.

Protein snack bars, drinks, deserts are highly/ultra processed so I would put them in the category of “now and again” and not an everyday thing. A very Cheap source of high quality Protein is gelatin, jello, or bone stock.

If you take housing and utility bills out of the equation Ireland isn’t particularly expensive compared to the rest of Europe.

Change it to the three year chart to see it.
