>Despite bans put in place by the U.S. and Europe on the supply of electronic components to Russia, dozens of Russian microelectronics suppliers continue to obtain and resell imported chips to Russian arms manufacturers successfully.

Nothing new, as long as at least China is not concerned by sanction you will find a lot Western components in ruzzian market.
> But the leaked letters reveal that suppliers faced difficulties procuring the electronics.
That’s pretty much all the sanctions can achieve.

Just because sanctions are not perfect doesn’t mean they do not have an aggregate effect. Russia is almost flat broke and has no chance of switching out of a war economy. So please fuck all the way off with your “sanctions don’t do anything” narratives. (@certain comments in this thread not the article)

For what it’s worth; you’re talking about an unimaginably vast supply chain that needs to be constantly policed and harassed for sanctions to work. You’re basically never going to stop the flow of chips into Russia- you might not even slow it down.
However, what you do do is make it more expensive. The fact that Russia can still get these chips doesn’t mean they’re not having to put a huge amount of effort into evading sanctions and paying increased prices for the chips they’re receiving. Sanctions not working perfectly doesn’t mean they don’t still hurt like a motherfucker.
