Well, that’s how Putin keeps his business: Western countries are positive-thinking democracies. Any new politician tries to convince himself that it’s not Putin who is a problem, but his predecessor who “failed to find a way to negotiate with Putin”; but when he realizes what’s going on, he is reelected and the new politician steps up.
You know when we used to think that Bush Junior was a bad president…
