Ha ha ha ha people can’t find a place to live…. Fucking tone deaf pieces of shit.

Lack of housing sign of a good economy and laughing with Trump says all you need to know about FF/FG voters and the politicians. If Trump rug pulls the IP investment by lower taxes to 15% and getting Apple , Microsoft , Meta ect to declare profits back to the US instead of Ireland we are truly fucked , and that’s without any movement of manufacturing jobs , just the accountants doing there job

    3. assflange on

Used to be a time when this would be all about “When are you going to visit Ireland Mr.President” and now it’s all these weird gotcha questions.

    4. The3rdbaboon on

Sounds like MM managed it fairly well. You can tell Trump has a bit of a soft spot for Ireland which definitely helped.

Credit to the Examiner’s Elaine Loughlin for asking the question and not just sticking with the overall narrative of “Micheál is just there to take hits from him, keep quiet”

It’s genuinely frightening that most of America supports this idiot.

    7. This was such a stupid question to ask. Reminding of the question Zelensky got about not wearing a suit.

I despise Trump, but he isn’t wrong about a lot of the stuff he says about Ireland. At a macro level the housing crisis is problem caused by success. Still no excuse for our government’s failure to fix it.

    9. harmlessdonkey on

Journal clickbait nonsense. MM expressed the view that the number one problem in Ireland is housing. However, “Martin tells US President that Housing Crises is number one problem” isn’t a clicky as the one they went with.

Its pretty good if you own property, drives up your home value or lets you charge obscene rents. Its not like mehole or the rest of the dáil are suffering from lack of housing.

No doubt most of Leinster house feels that exact way, but just not either stupid or brazen enough to say the quiet part out loud though

wtf. families are on the streets and this moron is laughing

    14. horseboxheaven on

Out of context, if you watch the whole thing it actually went quite well, as well as can be expected really.

As for Trumps answer, he’s saying its a good problem because he’s answering from a position of someone that can solve it. Demand for housing is good if you can deliver it.

He doesnt realise MM’s government is utterly incapable.

    15. Ok-Inevitable-3038 on

To be fair, FF/FG are also proud of their housing policies (lots of families unable to rent/by, increased value for landlords)

    16. Super_Sonic_Eire on

This might be unpopular but he didn’t have much choice. I feel some people don’t realise how much we depend on US investment in this country. Would be great to diversify but this is the situation we are in.

Martin telling Trump to fuck off might have been the right thing to do in some ways but not the smart thing to do.

Take me and my extended family (parents excluded as they are retired) and the category the companies we work for fall under

      Me – US MNC

      Wife – Irish Public Sector

      Brother – Irish Private Sector

      Brother’s Wife – US MNC

Brother In Law – US MNC

Brother in Law’s Partner – US MNC

Sister in Law – US MNC

Sister in Law’s Partner – US MNC

A small sample size but 6 of the 8 of us work for US companies for better or for worse.

    17. Massive-Foot-5962 on

He’s not wrong. There was no shortage of houses in the 1980s when everybody had to leave to get work.

    18. slamjam25 on

Trump’s a clown but he’s obviously right here? If you think “there’s so much demand for housing we can’t keep up” is bad just wait until you see a country where nobody wants to live. I’m sure houses in Eastern Ukraine are cheap as chips right now!

    19. jaywastaken on

Infairness to MM, what’s he supposed to do when Trump attempts a joke when his entire strategy was keep the head down and get through it without putting a target in our back. So he laughed along

then later when asked what’s our biggest issue at home he said it was housing and building enough homes so it is affordable to buy and rent.

You can hate them and I do, but I can’t really be annoyed by this.

    20. Morgypoos on

Whhh…I think its a damning enditement of the taoiseach that he fucn laughed too! As with all politicians he’s so far removed from the real issues. It was disgraceful how he slunk his way down trumps armpit and up his arse.

    21. Bruncvik on

For context: Trump’s father was a large (and largely scummy) landlord in New York City. He left Trump so much money that even his six bankruptcies didn’t completely wipe it out. It’s no surprise that he is positively biased towards housing crises.

    22. TheBatmanIRL on

To Trump it’s good, in his head he’d be jacking up the prices to rip off potential home owners.

Guys brain is mush but not when it comes to fleecing people.
