      If I understand correctly, Portugal never had a F-35 order, but was looking to replace their aging F-16 aircraft. Now they have decided not to consider the F-35 due to recent developments.

      Even as an American, I think the F-35s are overpriced pieces of shit that no one really needs. They’re basically a money laundering scheme for Lockheed and the politicians involved. Good on Portugal.

      Im still pissed that Norway chose F-35 over Gripen way back in 2008 or when ever it was. It was 100% the worse aircraft for our needs and 100% politically motivated to stay on the good side of the US. It was a terrible decision already back then and even worse now.

      All modern warfare equipment is software enabled and requires software for maintained and upgrades. Even if the F35 don’t have a “kill switch” missing maintenance or upgrade software would make inoperable

      Sadly if the EU has to defend themselves against Russia, they can’t put their faith in products from American defense companies or contracts working or being maintained. Wise move.

      I don’t understand why Belgium isn’t following Portugal’s example. Our Minister of Defence claims that the White House doesn’t have a kill switch. The biggest issue, however, is that the US could stop providing parts, rendering the F-35 useless.
