Trump has no fucking right to dictate what Ukraine’s future should be, since he’s deadset on pulling the US out of NATO.

    2. Maple_Chef on

trump wants out, so NATO can replace a dumbass country by a kickass country.

    3. Glittering_Turnip526 on

NATO is already redundant. A European/world alliance without US, and with Ukraine as its central military power, would be more effective.

    4. CorrectDot4592 on

      Wait a second…

      >During the interview with Bloomberg TV, Rutte was asked whether **former US President Donald Trump** had effectively removed Ukraine’s NATO bid from the negotiating table. He responded “Yes.”

So, Donald stepped down from the US presidency?

    5. Embarrassed_Lemon527 on

A ceasefire without a strong western presence in Ukraine will only last until RuSSia has rearmed.

    6. castion5862 on

Make a new alliance include Ukraine and call it something else “alliance of the willing “

    7. Practical_Tomato_680 on

NATO is dead in the water, and trump drove it to the ground.

    8. Mors_Umbra on

      NATO is a **defensive** alliance.

There is **ZERO** legitimate reason for someone to oppose any nation joining such an alliance as a participating member unless one of the following apply:

      * They want to attack them.

      * Someone they support wants to attack them.

      * Said applying country doesn’t/won’t comply with the rules of the organisation.

And well, that says it all doesn’t it? Because it sure as hell isn’t #3.

And it’s all irrelevant, Ukraine is a sovereign nation and can do as it wishes regarding application for NATO membership. And if a country opposes it’s addition then they need to be honest about why they oppose it, otherwise as far as I’m concerned they can fuck off.

    9. Call it something else. And leave the current version of the US out of it, and I am American. All this will pass one day but I don’t want anyone relying on the orange buffoon in the WH in the meantime.

    10. wombat6168 on

Ukraine no entry into NATO. Ok not a problem. Welcome to the new European defence organisation. All the support of the former NATO including article 5. Minus the interference of the US , Hungary and Slovakia.

    11. dubbleplusgood on

And by Trump you mean Putin’s Puppet. Color us shocked Trump wants what Putin wants.

    12. 99problemnancy on

Hey dumpy you foreign asset traitor you have no right to say this. Why say this except to appease Russia. There is no logic

    13. Wolf_Cola_91 on

The Biden admin and some European states, including Germany, were also opposed to Ukrainian NATO membership unfortunately. Not just Trump.

The real question is what kind of ongoing military aid and European force will be offered instead of NATO membership.

30k European troops, hundreds of jets and tens of billions in military aid a year wouldn’t be NATO, but would still be a significant deterrent.

But it needs to be a very strong deterrent to deter the Russians from trying to attack anyway.

    14. Strontiumdogs1 on

It can never be ruled out.
Ukraine has to have some final line that cannot be crossed by any aggressor.

      Slava Ukraini 🙏🇺🇦

    15. Tholian_Bed on

Trump has the office for four years. And due in large part to his own gross incompetence, the number of people who during that time period give a flying fuck what he thinks or does not think should happen in the real world is falling faster than a lead zeppelin.

    16. Traditional-Egg-1531 on

he only has a say during his presidency, so, its not the final word or anything.

    17. Sooo… if US drop out Nato… every other NATO members agrre on Ukraine to be in NATO ?

      Sounds good to me

    18. RedditModsRSuperUgly on

They chose Rutte over Kallas because they knew they can’t have an estonian running NATO, gotta choose some softie so they can give Putin some leeway.

    19. Starfire70 on

So Russia gets one of their conditions satisfied without a ceasefire, at gunpoint? A pretty awful sign.

    20. FaithlessnessKey1726 on

Has anyone actually believed he’d do otherwise at any point??

    21. AdElectronic4912 on

Well then, his problem, he’s the one promising a quick peace no matter the cost.

    22. Dirtyoar68 on

Just nod your head and keep your fingers crossed behind your back. Fuck Trump.

    23. Wobblycogs on

The more I see about this, the more I think it’s time for NATO to be replaced. Imagine a world where the countries of Europe form an alliance and that alliance then forms a pact with the US. It would create two parties that were closer to equals (Europe would currently be somewhat smaller but could match the US if it wanted).

    24. _SkiFast_ on

Fuck him, just wait 4 years. He probably won’t even be in NATO long. Because he is an idiot.

    25. LoquatThat6635 on

Wha? POTUS is ruling out US membership in NATO, so he has nothing to say on NATO business.

    26. Unclebum on

It’s not his call…. He really thinks he has more power than what reality is… Prick…

    27. Trump can rule it out for 4 years. But that wasn’t going to happen either way.

    28. shroomeric on

I’d say it should be a strong majority vote, not a US call only

    29. Dipshit thinks he’s a good businessman.

Nothing says “good businessman” like throwing your cards out the window before negotiating even begins.

    30. ShihPoosRule on

Trump is going to pull the U.S. out of NATO because he’s Pootin’s little bitch. Ukraine will be able to join then.

    31. Primary-Macaroon-283 on

But…but…where will be the drillmen when the meteor comes????

    32. Vegetable_Tackle4154 on

Trump on the verge of ruling out the USA’s NATO membership.

    33. Ill_Wolverine_6265 on

The USA will leave NATO anyway, we will do with Ukraine and without America.

    34. What a dumb ass. “No. I am blocking the expansion of our American-led defensive alliance that has led to unprecedented global peace and the ascendence of America as the world’s most powerful state in all history. In fact, I think we should undo 80 years of American hegemony and suggest that we LEAVE our own alliance and instead have no one to call for help in case of trouble. We should be a less stable, less powerful, less important country. Doesn’t that sound terrific?”
