We should make some kind of economic (and maybe even military) alliance between all the west-aligned countries, that also includes Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Australia and indeed Canada among others. We live in a dangerous world, and all of the free world should be ready to defend itself from outside forces
I appreciate that headlines have limited characters etc. but at times I can’t help but be concerned about why they so often seem appalling in quality to me (at least). From the headline, which is all most people read, but also throughout the article the fact that the President of the United States of America has repeatedly threatened Canada with annexation is treated a. as an afterthought, and b. as a kind of lighthearted joke. DJT is actively undermining Canadian sovereignty and prosperity, actively encouraging his people to have hostile attitudes to their nearest and dearest neighbour, as (and it bears repeating) repeatedly threatens their freedom. We are being failed by our media, even the generally decent and well meaning ones.
Hopefully we can establish better relations between Canada and the Eu.
Would love to see some kind common travel area, some kind of increased vetting process for those who want to make use of it, and a visa that has to be renewed every few years.

Makes sense. Carney has a lot of ties in Europe during his time in England. I wouldn’t be surprised if he wins the election this year Canada becomes part of the EU in the next year… whether that is good or bad we will see…

As a European, I’d gladly see Canada as a member of EU. Since that is unlikely to happen, I’m firmly for stronger economic, military and scientific cooperation between Canada and EU.
Carney already knows that Trump wouldn’t even bother taking his call, as he has never been elected to any form of public office in his life, and has been appointed Canada’s prime minister in a temporary caretaking capacity only.
Until there is a federal election held in Canada that produces a solid result for a four-year mandate, Carney won’t garner a shred of credibility with Trump or many other foreign leaders, and deservedly so.

Not just any European country, but the one that had a nuclear sub surface at Halifax harbor in a sign of support. The same country that openly talks about extending its nuclear umbrella to friendly nations. It’s an important ally indeed.
