      “**White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Monday a French politician who called on the US to return the Statue of Liberty should be thankful he is “not speaking German.**”

      Leavitt made the comment after she was asked by Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy about comments made over the weekend by French MEP Raphaël Glucksmann.

      **Glucksmann, who Politico reported is with France’s Socialists and Democrats group, said America no longer represented the principles on which it was founded since President Donald Trump’s inauguration.**

      In response to his comments, Leavitt referenced U.S. intervention in Europe in World War I and World War II when American troops freed France from German occupation.

      Doocy said, “There is now a member of the European Parliament from France who does not think the U.S. represents the values of the Statue of Liberty anymore.”

      The Fox News reporter asked, “They want the Statue of Liberty back. So, is President Trump going to send the Statue of Liberty back to France?”

      Leavitt replied, **“Absolutely not, and my advice to that unnamed, low-level French politician would be to remind them that it’s only because of the United States of America that the French are not speaking German right now. So they should be very grateful to our great country.”**

      Edit for clarity: I am German and hate getting shit for speaking my native language abroad. Heavy heavy sarcasm since it wasn’t clear enough. Thank you America, for using our language as an insult.

      I am foremost grateful to the British, because without their courage and resilience, there would have been no place do debark from (and btw, I haven’t ever heard the British asking us to thank them, to remember that wiithout them…). Now, if Japan hadn’t attacked Pearl Harbour…

      Oh, and btw, German is a beautiful language opening the door to one of the richest litterature in the world, well worth learning 😉

      Now, of course I am grateful to the American sodliers who fought in Europe, but to them, not to a governement. And I am grateful to all of them including those your boss has decided to erase from the intenert because their gender or skin color do not fit his politics.

      Well, if this administration had been in power in 1941, not only the French would be speaking German, but so would the rest of Europe, including the UK, the ex-Soviet Union-states and probably the US too.

      The French politicians whole point is that this administration does not represent the principles the US was founded on and governed by anymore.

      MAGA America seriously believes that they alone won WW2…to them it was D Day and Bastogne that’s it. Ask any American about the Battle of London, Siege of Leningrad, the Battle of Stalingrad, the tank battle of Kursk or El Alamein, you will see a puzzled face….

      I mean a lot of French do speak German already, it’s called being multi bilingual. Something that is sorely missing from that demographic of the US.

      We most likely wouldn’t have won the revolutionary war without French help. They sent us a lot of weapons and ammunition along with military strategy. Maybe we should be grateful we aren’t a British colony

      They waited until the entirety of Europe is overrun, didn’t engage until Japan hit them and Hitler declared war on them.

      The only thing one should be grateful (Americans included) is they didn’t have an extortionist orangegutan as a president to ask half of France’s minerals
