Anything to not talk about the dependence on Russian oil and gas.

Public departments should push as much as possible to not rely on foreign software.

Software boycott should be one of the toughest boycotts.

Simple….. force all software(paid, free…anything) to also be released on Linux…including games.

Firstly OS market would collapse(Windows, mac) since everything would work on opeb source and free OS-s

For software some governments are already using opensource alternatives, but to support lical software companies….simply buy local. Just like US only buys local military products.

For hardware EU needs our own Nvidia, Intel, AMD….somerhing similar.

Tough till we also have a european cloud solution – if all your stuff is still on aws it sorta defeats the point.

    6. Dutch government is notoriously bad at IT projects sadly.

Not sure how easy/hard it is to replace cloud services like aws and azure. Cloud services for plain file storage is fairly easy to transfer I guess.

There is a few critical software pieces that make it hard to move away from google/microsoft/apple as of today:
      – android and ios are very hard to replace at this point without a good alternative
      – The whole world runs on microsofts proprietary office document formats, that is not very linux compattible
      – None of the professional CAD and engineering programs run on anything not windows or mac
      – professional photo editors are mostly windows/mac based

Time to pay fair wages for software developers in EU then…

This is inevitable if America keeps on isolating itself.the fact nearly all transactions happening in Europe are with American card companies is weird and gives them so much insight of spending habits etc.

We should include basic Linux usage as part of high school education (or a little lower). It will help with this cause as well as raise computer literacy and probably other related skills, giving us a huge competitive edge.

Unless you develop your own operating system, you’ll remain reliant on Microsoft and Apple.

We failed to do that for past years but sure lets do it.

First steps should be to decouple from american cloud hosting services like aws and azure since just those 2 control over half of the cloud infrastructure market. Having reliable European alternative in place would allow us to have a solid foundation on which to build our data and software independence.

No matter what you do, if we don’t fully control our cloud infrastructure, anything that we develop on the software front doesn’t matter as much if we really want to take data management of EU users into our own hands 100%

Yay 🇳🇱 if you’re for an European alternative to WordPress (the software that powers 40% of the internet) I’m building a European alternative right here for the past 6 months /r/WhitelabelPress

      Apple? Sure! Google? Sure!
      Amazon AWS? Hell no
      Microsoft? Not a slightest chance.

What the EU would need is
1st a hyperscaler that comes close to AWS/Azure
2nd a office / identity ecosystem like Microsoft offers

There is a giant industry, reliances and even more knowhow based on these products, changing that requires billions if not trillions. Add on top the time for the implementation, knowhow transfer, developments etc.

It will not be as easy as to just not buy US booze..

    15. So that means Linux everywhere, right?

Like everyone should have been doing in the first place?
