Ciao a tutti !!

Qualsiasi aiuto sarebbe apprezzato … Questi sono gli screenshot che mi hanno fornito. Non hanno davvero tradotto per me ciò che intendevano, mi hanno solo spiegato che non hanno davvero dato un motivo per cui la tassa veniva addebitata.

Yes. Unless VAT has been prepaid by sender, the buyer needs to pay VAT + a fee.

It’s 53,6 kr VAT and 160 kr. fee in this case.

    2. Yes, this is normal.

It’s always the buyers responsibility when buying from outside EU.

    3. Well the buyer should be aware of it (VAT). Its always like this buying from the US. The solution is for the buyer to pay for it, not you. The size of the package doesn’t matter, but the price of the given item does. It should also be applicable to other EU countries.

    4. Completely normal for packages coming from outside EU exceeding a certain value.

And I would say it is the responsibility of buyer to pay

Your customer really need to read up on the import rules to Denmark. Like mentioned it’s a simple VAT bill, with a hefty handling fee attached. It sucks they try to make it your problem…

Yes, sales tax is the 53,60 DKK and the 160 DKK is the insane fee Postnord charges for this .. ehm .. service.
The fee varies between couriers – many don’t have a fee – and you could have done nothing to avoid this, as you could not know who your shipping service in the US is partnered with here.

I believe (just about) everybody in Denmark knows about this fee – and if you shop on a regular basis outside EU borders/Schengen, you’ll know about having VAT/sales tax added. Yes, I’m blaming your client a little here 😉

VAT here is 25% added to the original price, so whatever she purchased must have a value of about 212 DKK.
What Pirateship added are probably import taxes – but not sales tax.

It is only fee-free if it weights less than 3 grains and is no longer than 3/4 of the elbow. 🙂
Otherwise the receiver needs to pay vat + handling fee.

The 53dkk is the amount for VAT. The 160dkk is the fee the courier PostNord charges to provide this ‘service’. That’s how it works for parcels from outside the EU.

The buyer should be aware of that, it’s not a new thing.

As others have confirmed, yup that is normal and the buyers responcibility.

The danish customs service has a page about it in english, not sure if it can give you some more information.

I do remember something about a 1150kr limit when it comes to avoiding paying told, but not sure if I remember correctly, perchance some others who know can confirm or deny this, been years since I bought something outside the EU, just to avoid this extra fees.

Yeah, this is entirely normal. Any goods purchased through the internet from a seller based outside of the EU is subject to VAT.

VAT is 25% of the sale price, including shipping and handling. Whatever company handles the shipping in Denmark is required to collect the VAT, and can add an additional fee for doing so.

You’re way below the limit that is subject to customs, but the VAT applies to ALL shipments from outside the EU.

In your third picture, “Told/importmoms” means “customs / import VAT” and “Ekspeditionsgebyr” means “handling fee”.

The buyer really should have expected this.

    12. Old_Effective_915 on

This is entirely normal. Basically, you are hitting the EU toll wall. Your customer needs to pay VAT on their purchase. They can do that in two ways: either you the seller collect it and register it with the relevant authorities through IOSS (most big webshops do it that way) or your customer pays directly to the local authorities + a handling fee.

It sucks, but frankly? This is standard for buying in a small webshop from outside the EU, and your customer really should have known that.

Amount is correct for a package of a declared USD 40 value

    14. COWP0WER on

      Yes, it’s normal and infuriating.
I’m guessing the product you sold them cost about 31 dollars. That would fit with the Vat of 53.60 DKK = 7.84 USD, as Denmark has a flat Vat of 25% on basically every good sold. That’s what it is, and fair.
The infuriating part is that they also charge a handling/processing fee of 160 kr (24.4 USD), which makes buying small order prohibitively expensive, even when disregarding shipping costs.

Personal story, I once had a very nice company ship me a new box for a book set, because the glue had broken. I didn’t request a new box, I just mentioned it on a survey they send out, and they decided to send me a new box free of charge… Expect it got snatched up in processing and they wouldn’t hand me my package until I paid the handling/processing fee. In other words they wanted me to pay 180 kr (26.3 USD) for an empty cardboard box.
I guess no good deed goes unpunished.

    15. NoLongerGuest on

As others have said this is vat/taxes. There are only really 2 options now that kinda depend on what has already happened. If the original purchase included vat then it means you didn’t report it correctly to the toll services.
This means either the purchaser pay the fees again and live with it or they refuse to pay and the package gets sent back to you. Then you can refund them and resend the package but this time report it correctly.

If they didn’t then they just have to pay and move on.

    16. SplitToWin on

      Hello.

Do you have the possibility to add VAT to your sales and add/pay for Denmark to be included as a special arrangement regarding VAT?

Once registrered, your invoicing programs should have the possibility to add VAT according to the buyers country to the invoice and charge VAT upfront.

VAT-rates in Europe are differently in each country.

If you don’t, the buyer need to fill out a form and pay VAT, if they don’t they end up in the situation you have here, where they need to pay VAT + a handling fee of around 20$.

    17. OfficialQzf on

I am from Norway, but more or less the same rules apply.

This is is the buyers responsibility, and has been for years. Chinese Temu junk has a knack for avoiding import customs charges here in my country by using really old international postage regulations, however every reputable company actually writes correct information on the shipping labels, and therefore gets the appropriate charges added.

Also, yeah, the 53 DKK is the actual VAT being added and the 160 DKK is the import handling fee

    18. LazyDawge on

Yes it’s normal. It would be better for both of you if the customer can pay tax directly on your site, that way it only ends up being 53kr extra and the 160kr fee is avoided (for future reference). Not sure how complicated that is though
