**Ion Gheorghe Pelivan** (April 1, 1876 – January 25, 1954) was a [Romanian](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romania) politician.

He was born in [Răzeni](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R%C4%83zeni), [Bessarabia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bessarabia), the son of Gheorghe Pelivan and his wife, Eugenia Varuh Titica.[^([1])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ion_Pelivan#cite_note-1) He graduated in 1898 from the [Theological Seminary of Chișinău](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Theological_Seminary_of_Chi%C8%99in%C4%83u&action=edit&redlink=1) and in 1903 he received a law degree from the [University of Tartu](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Tartu). Subsequently, he worked as jurist in [Bălți](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B%C4%83l%C8%9Bi).

During 1917–1918, Pelivan served as Foreign Minister of the [Moldavian Democratic Republic](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moldavian_Democratic_Republic) in the [Pantelimon Erhan Cabinet](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pantelimon_Erhan_Cabinet) and the [Daniel Ciugureanu Cabinet](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Ciugureanu_Cabinet).

He was arrested in May 1950 by the [Romanian communist authorities](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socialist_Republic_of_Romania) and sent to [Sighet Prison](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sighet_Prison) in [Sighetu Marmației](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sighetu_Marma%C8%9Biei), where he died in 1954. A street in the [Buiucani Sector](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sectorul_Buiucani) of [Chișinău](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chi%C8%99in%C4%83u) was named in his honor, and the theoretical high school in the village where he was born, Răzeni, [Ialoveni District](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ialoveni_District), bears his name.[^([3])](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ion_Pelivan#cite_note-TVR-3) The village [Pelivan](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pelivan) in [Orhei District](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orhei_District), Moldova was named after him in 1932.
