I was wondering about this. They should do this for the single guys too. Some women want a kid but no husband. Offer support for a kid of a deceased soldier.

If the future population decreases because fertile men are dying, if they take steps to be able to have children before putting themselves at risk of death, then that should mitigate the effects somewhat, if not greatly.
